“You might want to ask her what Granny Jones told her today.”

Colby glanced at Preston and they both ran out of the bank manager’s office.

“Why does it feel like I really screwed this up,” he said.

“I thought you said there were signatures on the contract,” Preston asked as they hurried out of the bank and climbed into the truck.

“There was,” Colby said. “But I don’t remember seeing her signature. Only Jim’s before I became enraged.”

Preston backed the truck out of the bank parking lot and hurried down the street. He pulled into the grocery store.

“What are you doing? We should get home,” Colby said.

He glanced at the man he considered his brother. “After this kind of fight, you don’t go home empty-handed. We’re getting flowers and a bottle of champagne.”

Colby nodded. “Let’s take home some takeout.”

“Go order steak at the restaurant,” Preston said. “Once I get flowers and champagne, I’ll pick you up.”

Colby turned as he was walking down the street. “What about jewelry?”

“Not tonight, but soon,” Preston said. Tonight was all about making up for the stupid mistake they’d made.

Why he hadn’t checked the contract, he didn’t know, but he wouldn’t make that mistake again. Not if he wanted to make her his wife. And he did. The sooner, the better. If she wasn’t going back to New York, then he had every intention of marrying Kalie.

Tonight might not be the time to ask her, but soon.

CHAPTER17

Kalie had cried herself to sleep. At the sound of someone coming into the house, she woke. She’d changed from her sexy nighty to a long T-shirt and panties. No sense in being in sexy clothes when you weren’t in the mood.

Listening, she wondered who had entered her home. Grabbing her phone, she was prepared to call the police.

Then she heard their voices. Only problem was she was still so mad at them, she didn’t want to speak to them. She wasn’t going down to meet them. Screw ’em.

Just then the door to her bedroom burst open and the two men walked in. Colby carried flowers, which didn’t fit his personality at all and Preston held a champagne bottle.

“We’re idiots,” Colby said. “I’m sorry. I didn’t let you speak and I didn’t listen to you. All I could think was that you had sold everything and we no longer would be here at the ranch. I let my emotions take over and I was wrong. I’m sorry.”

Shocked, she stared at him. The man had never apologized and she was stunned to hear him admit he was wrong.

Preston moved in front of her. “Colby is right. We’re idiots. All I saw was that Jim White had signed that contract and I was in a haze of anger. I never looked to see if you had signed it. I love you, Kalie. All I could think was that you were leaving us. And I didn’t want you to go. To hell with the ranch. You were the one I didn’t want to leave.”

Her heart clenched.

“I love you too,” Colby said. “And that’s damn hard for me to admit. I’m scared to death.”

She crossed her arms over her chest. “How did you find out that I didn’t sell?”

Colby placed the flowers in her arms and then Preston proceeded to tell her what happened at the bank.

Warmth filled her heart, and she knew that no matter what, she would forgive these two men. She loved them with all her heart, and yes, they had behaved like idiots, but they were her idiots.

Colby stepped behind her and Preston was in front. They wrapped her in their arms.

“Do you forgive us?” Colby asked. “It was my fault. The thought of you leaving got to me. Especially after I’d told you the reason I went to prison. I’d been so vulnerable and I thought you were going to desert us.”

She leaned back against him and let her fingers trail down his face. “Colby, I love you. Yes, I forgive you. Both of you.”
