Chapter Fifty-Five

Juno

As I scan the waitingroom, my knees are nearly knocking together I’m so nervous. Thankfully, the wait isn’t long. A neatly dressed woman walks toward me, her hand outstretched.

“Juno. I’m Marianne. So nice to meet you.” Her smile is warm.

I shake her hand and smile, doing my best to hide my nerves.

As she walks toward the hallway, she calls over her shoulder, “Everyone is waiting in the conference room. Follow me.”

I try to subtly take a deep breath and then follow behind her. The walls are lined with posters of all the network’s hit shows and stars. I’ve spent hours watching them. I can’t believe I’m here.

Marianne stops at a door and motions me to come inside. There are a few people around the table - all smiling up at me. I give a little wave.

Marianne motions me in and points to a chair at the end. “She’s here.”

The man at the end of the table stands up, “Juno. I’m Hal Tomlinson, CEO ofFood Life Network, welcome.”

“Thank you.” I take my seat. Someone pours me a glass of water and sets it in front of me. They disappear before I can thank them.

“Juno, we love everything you are doing,” Hal says, walking my direction. “Juno’s Kitchenis informative, funny, entertaining, and addictive. It’s just the sort of thing that we’re always trying to create here at FLN.”

I smile. “Thank you. That means a lot to me. I’m a long time viewer.”

Marianne sits down in one of the seats across from me and says, “We’d love for you to join our family. We think you’re the perfect fit.”

Hal nods. “We need some new blood – some young faces. We love that you already have a following and that you know your stuff. Just finished pastry school, isn’t that right?”

I nod. “I did.”

“That’s important to our viewers. They don’t just want a pretty face. They want someone with credibility, and you have that.”

I take a sip of my water. “Thank you.”

“So what do you think?” he says, standing at the chair in front of me with his hands on the back of it.

“About joining the network?” I ask.

Marianne and Hal nod.

“I’d love to,” I say with a bright smile. I can’t believe this is happening. I didn’t think it would be this easy. “Don’t you want me to audition or something?”
