“Good to see you, too,” I say, taking a seat.

“My sister, Bode,” he says. “Sisters are off-limits. Everyone knows that.”

I roll my eyes. He’s already ordered coffee. I pour myself a mug.

“Did you spend the night with her?”

“Yes.”

He pinches the bridge of his nose.

“And I plan to spend every night with her for the rest of my life,” I say.

His eyes jerk up to me. “It’s that serious?”

I nod.

“Does Juno know that?”

I nod again. “Ask me whatever you need. Let’s get it all out in the open.”

“Did this start when she was eighteen?”

I shake my head. “No.”

“Why did you say eighteen last night?”

“I kissed her when she was eighteen.”

His jaw tightens.

“Do you remember that party at my place she came to when she was visiting you?”

“Yeah. I couldn’t find her.”

“Right. She came up to me, and I swear I had no idea who she was. You said yourself she went from looking like a kid to looking twenty-five overnight. We didn’t talk much. I didn’t know her name. I just thought she was a stranger at a party. We kissed. I had no clue she was eighteen. I had no clue it was your sister until you came around that corner.”

His eye twitches a little and I just continue talking, “I stayed away from her after that. You remember, you thought I was annoyed with her. I wasn’t. I was just trying to stay away from her.”

“Italy. Is that when this started?” he asks.

“Yes.”

“You said you’d look out for her – that’s a fucking shady thing to do.”

“I didn’t plan this, and I tried to keep it from happening. I felt so guilty – torn between my loyalty to you and my feelings for her. All that matters is she chose me. She wanted to be with me, and she was an adult. I know that’s not what you wanted, but I didn’t take advantage of her. I didn’t pressure her. Frankly, she asked me several times to be with her before I did because I felt so guilty about it, but I realized none of it was fair to her.”

He tilts his head to the side. “How so?”

“You guys had her locked up. What sort of life is that? Even if it was a mistake, it was her mistake to make.”

He breathes in sharply through his nose.

“So, what now?” he asks.

“I love her. I want to be with her.”

He tilts his head back to the ceiling. “This isn’t just sex?”
