She shakes her head. “I am...but I guess I’m not.”
James stands up. “Time for my holiday speech.”
Eli groans.
“Oh, you know you love it,” James says.
Eli just makes a face.
James blinks a few times as he looks around the table. “We seem to grow every year. Nothing could make me happier, but we’re going to have to move to a bigger room soon.”
Everyone laughs.
“It’s been a big year all around. A lot of sweet moments and exciting adventures. We’ve gained some new additions.”
He looks at Bode, who squeezes my hand.
“There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not thankful for all of you, but I feel it even more this time of year. I love all of you. Thank you for coming.”
He raises his glass, “Happy Thanksgiving.”
We all raise our glasses and toast. “Happy Thanksgiving.”
Zadie clinks her glass when we’re finished. “Ethan and I have an announcement. Isaiah’s paperwork is final. He’s officially our son.”
Everyone cheers.
“And, we’ve been approved for another foster child – another boy. He’ll be arriving on Monday.”
Brooklyn leans over and gives Zadie a hug. “That’s wonderful news.”
Keene raises his hand. “I have an announcement too.”
“I’m nervous about this one,” Will whispers.
“I got into law school. I’ll be attending next year.”
A few mouths drop.
“I didn’t know you’d applied,” Zadie says.
Keene shrugs. “I know it might seem odd, and I’m not interested in the boring law that Zadie and Will do.”
Will snorts and Zadie shoots him a look.
“When Juno needed an entertainment lawyer it got me thinking, but not about entertainment exactly. I’m thinking sports.”
Will nods a few times. “Okay, I can see it.”
Zadie adds. “Yeah. You’ll be great at that.”
“Keene, you are full of surprises,” Declan says.
“Congratulations,” Ethan calls. “You’ll do great.”
James nods. “Yeah. You really will.”
When the commotion about Keene dies down, I say, “I have an announcement too.”
