I roll my eyes. “I’m an adult, Eli. You should try treating me like one.”

“Hell no,” Eli says. “James agreed to let you come out here this summer if you’d promise to behave, and if I promised to keep an eye on you.”

I wave my arms around. “There are literally two Secret Service agents somewhere in the shadows. What is possibly going to happen to me?”

Eli just scowls. “The Secret Service are not here to protect you from men who think you are twenty-five. They are just here to keep you alive and not kidnapped or something.”

“Maybe I don’t need to be protected from men,” I say.

“You do,” Bode says quickly.

Eli points at him and nods in agreement.

I take my time glaring at both of them.

Eli’s phone buzzes, and he glances down. “Shit, I have to talk to Trevor before he leaves. You’ll keep an eye on her for me?”

Bode nods. He keeps his gaze glued on me as Eli walks away. His eyes are flickering, his chest rising and falling noticeably with each breath.

“Why the hell didn’t you tell me who you were?” he hisses once he’s sure Eli’s gone.

“That wouldn’t have been very fun,” I answer.

His eyes narrow on me.

“Besides, we’ve met like six times,” I continue.

“Last time I saw you, you looked twelve,” he growls.I wasn’t twelve, but Iwasa bit of a late bloomer.

I shrug. “I can’t help it if you aren’t very good with faces.”

I move to pick up my drink, but he grabs my wrist. “That better not be alcoholic.”

“It’s not. Do you want to sip?” I say sweetly.

He drops my wrist and then runs his hands through his hair. He points in the direction of the party. “If Eli finds out about this, he will fucking murder me.”

I step closer so I can straighten his collar and smooth the front of his shirt. “So don’t tell him.”

I give his chest a little pat and walk back to the party without a single glance back his direction.
