I stand up and look down at him. “Remember what I said, if you ever decide to be less boring, I’m happy to help you out. Just think, no one will catch you in the hallway tonight if you want to visit my room.”

I give him one final look – it’s unmistakable what I’m hinting at. He looks a bit bewildered. That’s not a good sign. Maybe I’ve been reading him all wrong? It’s not like I have any experience with these things.

I go to my bedroom and wait. I hear him come upstairs about thirty minutes later. He goes to his room and shuts the door. It does not open again until morning.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Bode

She’s leaning so farinto Justin, they might as well just start making out. I can’t stop watching them, but I’m also determined to make this focaccia correctly.

Patrizia keeps checking on me. She doesn’t trust me after yesterday. I don’t blame her. She peers at my bowl and nods approvingly. “Much better today, Bode.”

Juno gives me two thumbs up behind Patrizia’s back, and I fight the urge to roll my eyes – or flip her off, but I don’t want Patrizia think it’s in response to her.

At lunch, Juno sits between the couple from Idaho and the one from London. They are all talking like they’ve been friends for years. I’m stuck in a conversation with Justin. He’s trying to convince me that I should start microdosing LSD.

“So what do you do?” I ask trying desperately to get him to stop talking about LSD.

“Crypto.”

No shit.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“I started my own crypto,” he says, leaning back in his seat.

Honestly, that doesn’t surprise me one bit.

“If you want in, now is the time. It’s going to take off – just like getting Bitcoin in 2011.”

“Wow. That’s really something.” My voice is completely flat. I could not sound less interested if I tried.

“I know.” He’s so smug. This is the guy she wants to be with? Good lord.

He leans in and says, “So what’s the deal with you and Juno? You’re just friends, right?”
