Kimber nodded. Taking her hand, he led her to the table and pulled out a chair for her. She sat, his hands still on the back of the chair. Her warm body pressed against his fingers. Her braid caught between her shoulder and the back of the chair. Lifting it gently, he enjoyed her surprised intake of breath and the widening of her eyes. Setting it over her shoulder, he withdrew his hand, fingers dragging lightly along her collarbone.

Neither of them breathed. Her pink lips parted; cheeks flushed. Eyes sparkling.

She wanted him, too.

He wanted to taste her. Human kissing was a delectable experience, and he wanted to experience it with her. Cupping her chin lightly in his hand, he lifted her face as desire and raw want pumped through every inch of him.

Before he could lean down to kiss her, a body knocked into him as someone raced to peer out the window.

“The lights are back over the water! They’re real. Holy shit, it’s a UFO!”

Chapter Six

Kimber

Kimberboltedoutofher chair as a crowd of people swarmed the windows to look over the ocean. The mass of people knocked into her. Ethan quickly snagged her wrist and pulled her out of the way. Slightly irritated that she couldn’t see, Kimber stood on her toes and tried to peer over people’s heads.

“Do you see anything?” She asked Ethan.

“No.”

“Damn it. I can’t see anything from here!”

Glancing over her shoulder, she found him completely unfazed that Dingle’s claim to fame was happening outside right now. Didn’t he want to see if the rumors were true? Her chest thumped with excitement. Moving here and there, she tried to squeeze in somewhere, but the mass of bodies was too tightly packed to find the room.

Despite everyone’s obvious interest, no one went outside to look firsthand. Realizing she had a clear path to the door; Kimber turned and headed that way. The evening air was a mixture of balmy and cool as she hurried around the pub to the small hill that led down to the water. Ethan’s footfalls hurried behind her. Pulling the sides of her denim jacket closer around her, Kimber rounded the pub, so she was inline with the windows where everyone watched from inside. Peering at the horizon, she gasped as two exceptionally bright lights hovered above the water.

Her breath hitched with suspense. Most of the reports she’d read about the Dingle UFO lights stated they would dart into the sky from the water and disappear. These lights remained in the same spot, gently bobbing up and down. Digging in her jacket pocket for her cellphone, she fumbled to get the video app open.

Ethan made a small sound next to her. “How disappointed would you be if I told you those are the lights from a fishing boat?”

“Oh… really? Are they?”

He smiled kindly. Kimber rolled her eyes at herself. What had she been thinking, running out here like this? Glancing behind her at the pub windows, she found them empty. Everyone had gone back to drinking. Leave it to her to act like a crazed fool.

“I feel ridiculous. Of course, it’s a fishing boat. What else could it be?”

Ethan bumped his shoulder lightly against hers. “I’ve seen the Dingle lights. They look nothing like those.”

She paused, skeptical. “You’re sure it wasn’t another fishing vessel?”

“Normally, fishing vessels don’t launch into the sky, hover for a few seconds and then disappear.”

There was just enough light from the buildings that she could see his face. He looked serious.

“When did you see them? Where?”

“Two weeks ago, I think. Just down the shore this way.”

They strolled across the damp grass. Kimber couldn’t help scanning the horizon as they went just in case something happened. Ethan walked protectively close to her, his body skimming hers and teasing her with his warmth. The wind blew softly, kicking up the sound of the water lapping against the shore. There was a heaviness in the air that wasn’t there before, as if a storm was brewing. Maybe it was just the heady desire that he stirred up in her. She never had such an immediate reaction to a stranger before and as they walked with their bodies bumping into each other, it only got stronger.

She really needed to break the tension.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Of course.”

“Do you believe extraterrestrials are visiting Dingle?”
