I agreed to spy on these people to try to get close to them.

My actions alone probably didn’t cause this, but I worked with the enemy.

All I thought about was the money.

I didn’t think about the people who could be hurt. Like the two women sobbing and crying in front of me.

They’re worried about their husbands. Worried about the other men.

They don’t know if they’re dead or alive…

But everyone could still very much be alive.

Jude could still be alive.

But if what Nathaniel says is true, at least one man is going to die.

Gabriel.

He’s willing to die to protect his family.

Jude’s family.

Myfamily.

I’m so choked up, I have to practically cough the words out, “I’ll drive.”

Either no one heard me or they’re all ignoring me because the men keep walking.

Chasing after Nathaniel, I have to take a couple of deep breaths before I can shout, “I’ll drive!”

Nathaniel stops and gives me a scowl.

James glances over his shoulder but doesn’t stop limping away. “No! Go back to the safe room!”

It would be easy to do as he says. To tell myself I tried and head back to safety.

What will be, will be.

But Jude needs me.

Meredith and Beth don’t even know me but they helped me. Helped Abel.

Fuck, James himself risked his life.

This is the least I can do.

“No. I’m going to drive,” I say more firmly. “Give me the keys.”

James stops limping and turns to face me. He gives me the darkest, meanest glare I’ve ever seen. “Fuck no. It’s too fucking dangerous. You need to stay with your baby.”

I fight the urge to wilt under his glare and turn my focus to Nathaniel. Hoping he’s more likely to agree. “If I drive, will you be able to save Gabriel?”

“Yes,” Nathaniel confirms with some hesitation. “But like James said, it’s too dangerous. You should go be with Abel.”

I shake my head. “Sonya is watching Abel. I’m not going to fight. I’ll just drive and drop you guys off, like an Uber.”

“An Uber?” James laughs and shakes his head in disbelief.
