Connor grimaces. “She insisted when Andie told her the plan. I’ve never rolled down a highway going a hundred miles an hour in a coach before. I didn’ know they could go that fast.”
“You guys came for me?” I look up into his beautiful blue eyes, the color of the ocean behind us. Tears pool in mine.
“We did.” Connor leans in and kisses me again. Then he raises his hand and waves everyone over. Kiki comes running and leaps into my arms.
“Turd Jam, are you okay?”
“I’m okay, Kinky.”
“Goddamn it, don’t ever leave me standing in a nightclub again.”
“I’m sorry. Total breakdown. It won’t happen again, I promise.”
“Cross your heart.” She makes the cross-motion with her finger over her chest and I do the same.
“Cross my heart.”
“TJ! Your nana’s house is so beautiful!” Sarah pulls me into a hug.
“Thanks, Sare Bear. Thank you guys for coming here. It means so much to me.” I swipe away a tear. “I’m so embarrassed.”
“TJ, you are always there for us. It’s our turn to return the favor. Besides, we couldn’t let you go on vacation without us.” Kiki pats my back. “Nana Rose? It’s your favorite person in the whole world! Open up the photo albums and pour the margaritas!”
“Bitch please, I’m her favorite person,” I spout out.
Nana Rose stands in the open doorway with her arms open wide. “How’s my favorite girl?”
Kiki gives me an I-told-you-so look over her shoulder and hugs Nana. “Have I ever shown you the picture of Thomas in his yellow crochet daisy vest?”
“What?” Kiki squeals. “You have not. I’m dying to see it.”
“Nana, no!”
“Come on, everyone, come inside.” Nana waves everyone in behind Kiki. “Oh Sarah, I love the natural blonde, but the purple was so much fun.”
“I’ll change it again soon, Nana Rose. Thanks for having us.”
“Of course, dear. Oh, Anderson, you look like you’re positively glowing. How far along are you, dear?”
“Oh uh, I’m…uh—”
“Oh my god, hold the hot sauce, you’re preggers?” I squeal.
Andie’s eyes dart between me, Connor, and Nana. “I found out a few weeks ago. I didn’t want to upset y’all.”
“Upset us? Honey, we’re thrilled for you and Cam.” I pull her into a hug and squeeze. “I’m so sad you thought it would upset me. Andie, just because it may not work out for us, don’t ever think I don’t want it for you guys, okay?”
She nods and bursts into tears. “I’m sorry. Damn hormones.”
“We’re so excited for you and Cam, Love.” Connor pulls her into his arms.
“Come on, honey, come inside and get yourself together. Are we waiting for your friend on the bus?”
“Mandy?” Andie turns back toward the bus. “She’s giving a tour. Your neighbors wanted to see inside the coach.”
I cup my hands around my mouth and shout, “Hey Mandy, are you coming in?”
She waves. “Be there in a sec! Showing Rita and Ed around!”
