“I’m glad she had a good time.”

“We all did. Thank you for doing that, babe. I know it wasn’t in your schedule and it took a lot for you guys to pull together at the last minute, but it meant so much to TJ and me.”

“Anything for you, CG.” I kiss the top of her head. “We had fun.”

“Do you ever get tired of it all?” she asks after a few moments.

“No, it’s such a rush. I love the fans, the crowd, the music, playing onstage with my best friends… I’m one lucky son of a bitch.” I shift my body so that I’m lying down beside her, gazing into her eyes. “The moment it gets old for either of us is the moment I hang up my guitar. Do you get tired of it?” I ask, lifting an eyebrow.

“Never. I love watching you perform.” She brushes her fingers through my hair.

I smile. “What’s your favorite song for moments like this?”

“You mean the half-drowsy, should I go to bed or should I make a move on my man kind of moment?”

“Yeah, sure, that.”

She rolls her eyes and taps her finger to her lips, thinking. “Are you going to steal my phone again and go through my playlist, embarrassing the hell out of me?”

My grin grows wider, remembering the night I first tried to kiss her. “Answer the question, Coffee Girl.”

She grabs her phone off the side table and opens her playlist. “For moments like this, I would play ‘My Man’ by Maddie and Tae.”

She plays the song.

“Look at you picking out a country song about your man. I’m so proud.”

“Oh, it’s my song for TJ.”

“What?” I sit up, pretending to be offended. She holds up a finger, smiling. She switches to a Spice Girls song. I grab the phone from her. “‘Wannabe’? Really? This is the song for when we’re lying in bed gazing into each other’s eyes whispering sweet nothings?”

“It’s catchy and tells you what I want.” She rips it back from my hands. I lie back, flinging my arm over my face as Mel B sings about what she really, really wants. She switches the song to Taylor Swift’s ‘You Need to Calm Down’.

“Ha-ha, very funny. I am calm.”

She grins toothily at me and plays “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. She mouths, don’t stop me now, arching an eyebrow. I snatch the phone and tickle her with my other hand.

“Oh my god, okay I’m sorry! Gah! Please stop tickling me,” she gasps in between laughter. “I can’t hold my pee like I used to after two kids. Tatum James Reed, Iwillpee on you!”

I immediately withdraw my hand. “Well, that was a mood-killer.” I grin. She snatches her phone and scrolls through her songs.

“Okay, okay. Here’s your song for whenever I think of you, or when I’m half asleep lying in bed with you.” Taylor Swift sings and I look over at her, my brows scrunched together.

“I don’t know this song—” I grab the phone back.

Kiki giggles as Taylor sings, “I Forgot That You Existed”.

“Oh really? It’s like that, is it? Don’t make me change all your car stations to honky-tonk radio.”

“You wouldn’t dare. Not that twangy shit.”

I nod sagely.

“Fine.” She grabs her phone back and scrolls through her music. “This song game of yours is so weird.”

“You love it. It’s what made you fall in love with me when we first met.”

“I believe it was your butt in Levi’s that made me fall in love but think what you want, Tater Tot. I don’t want to be a killjoy.”
