Jenna’s eyes softened, and her happiness returned. My hands were still on her hips when I felt her whole body relax.

“You’re very welcome,” she smiled warmly. “I’m also glad your parents’ legacy will live on.”

There was the rattle of cellophane as she reached down and plucked the fortune that had somehow fallen out of my cookie. She read it first, raised an eyebrow, then turned the little strip of paper so that it faced me:

THE PAST IS NEVER WHERE YOU THINK YOU LEFT IT

Jenna was full-blown smirking now, her expression skeptical. My own grin was a mile wide.

“If I didn’t see you open it with my own eyes,” she sighed, “I’d accuse you of planting this.”

Twenty

JENNA

We ate, we drank, we finished up in the foyer. Jay and I stripped all three walls down to the bare wood, while Tyler finished nailing in new studs to replace the rotten ones they’d demo’d earlier.

Though it all we continually fed the fire, keeping the room as cozy and warm as the last time I’d been here. It was a little bit of a turn-on, watching them work. Tyler and Jay were responsible, full-blown handymen — a far cry from the frivolous college snowboarders I’d met all those years ago. I guess we’d all changed, when you thought about it. In ways that were mostly good.

Eventually we dropped our tools and fell into the couches, letting the heat from the fire wash over us. My eyes lingered on the floor of course, where all the magic had happened. The longer we went without speaking, the more it became the elephant in the room.

“Well… it’s getting late.”

My words should’ve been accompanied by me rising and getting ready to go. Instead, my body refused to move at all. Jay and Tyler got up together instead, moving so totally in unison it was almost like they’d planned it. When they slid down on either of side me, I groaned.

“We’renotdoing this again,” I protested.

A big, calloused hand dropped to my thigh on either side. They were warm. Strong. Powerful.

“It’s not like we—”

They squeezed, and I lost my breath mid-sentence. Whatever I was about to say was gone forever, as my brain quickly took a back seat to what my body was telling me.

“Seriously,” I pleaded. “I—”

Jay tilted my mouth his way, kissing me so deeply and beautifully I could feel my body floating above the cushions. He passed my lips to Tyler, who drank from them so thirstily it made me dizzy before he took me back.

Fuck.

Back and forth they went, kissing me slowly, sensuously, until every last ounce of my resolve was gone. It didn’t take much, apparently. I’d come here for exactly this, whether I wanted to admit it or not.

“What would you say if we told you we had a surprise for you,” Tyler eventually whispered, nuzzling my neck.

Somehow I had my legs open, my thighs wide. One of the men had already unbuttoned and unzipped my jeans. Both of them had fingers moving in tandem now, working their way beyond the final frontier of my waistband.

You made this happen, Jenna.

I had, actually. Letting my fingers wander during my steamy hot shower hadn’t satisfied me at all — especially since all I could think about wasthem. If anything, it made my cravings worse. It beckoned me to get dressed and drive on over.

You wanted this.

“What kind of surprise are we talking about?” I sighed, twisting between them. I was as turned on as I was intrigued.

“We should probably just show you.”

With that I was lifted in Tyler’s two strong arms, and carried across the room. Jay walked ahead of us, leading the way up the staircase to the second floor. Which was strange, because that entire floor of the house was roped off last time I’d been over.

We went down a creaky hallway and through a doorway, into what had to be the master suite. It was dark at first. Too dark to see. Then Jay began lighting a series of candles scattered across the floor, and shapes gradually materialized around me.
