Oddly enough, not seeing him was even worse. It created an anticipation that grew hour by hour, day by day. It left my mind to wander restlessly, wondering where he was, what he was up to, and what unfortunate situation he’d spring upon me next.

Because hewouldbe coming around again. Of that I had zero doubt.

The only other contact I’d had with him was a single text-message, sent the day after he’d landed in the middle of our lunch. A simple question that I’d left entirely unanswered:

HAVE DINNER WITH ME?

I’d stared at the message for a long time, not knowing whether I should respond, or even how. After a while, even looking at it made me feel sick. And so I’d deleted it, along with the number it came from, hoping beyond all hope that Elijah might get distracted by something or someone else, and go away.

If only…

“Penny for your thoughts?”

Right now I was in Tyler’s newly-claimed bedroom, safely tucked away from the rest of the world. It was fast becoming one of my favorite places, especially on a cold, blustery night such as this.

“Can’t do much with a penny these days,” I chuckled.

I watched as he rolled onto his back, his broad, naked body generously covering the wet spot. Tyler was a gentleman like that. It was a gesture I could appreciate.

“Fine. Five bucks, then.”

I sighed happily, extending an arm over his chest as I curled against him from the side. Our naked bodies had always molded perfectly into each other, he and I. When we first dated, we used to joke how we were like two puzzle pieces that clicked together.

“I was wondering if you’re nervous about the grand opening,” I lied.

Tyler hesitated, maybe wondering whether or not he should call me out on my bullshit. In the end he decided not to.

“I’m excited more than anything else,” he said. “We all are.”

“You damn well fucking should be,” I needled him. “You worked hard for this.”

He purred contentedly, squeezing me tighter against his ribs as I glanced up to look at those fierce blue eyes. They glowed brightly, even in the dim light of the shadowy bedroom. Even better, I was rewarded with his beautiful smile.

“Weallworked for this,” he murmured. “The four of us. Together.”

I felt a flush of pride. “True…”

“But none of it would’ve happened without you.”

He bent to kiss me, and I sighed happily into his open mouth. His lips were fire, rolling hotly against mine. I could feel that arousal stirring again, deep in my belly. The same one that had gotten us here in the first place.

Eventually though, he bit my bottom lip and playfully pulled away.

“You hopping over to Luca’s bed next?” Tyler asked casually.

It was a question that might’ve driven other boyfriends crazy, of course. But not my guys. There wasn’t a hint of jealousy in Tyler’s voice. There never was.

God, that part was so fucking amazing.

“Depends on when he gets home,” I shrugged.

“Well you should,” he smirked.

“Oh yeah?” I smiled back. “And why’s that?”

“Because you’re good for Luca,” he replied, his voice going low and serious. “You keep him steady. You keep him from…”

His words trailed off. His chin tilted upward, to gaze at the ceiling.
