Viper came up the porch, his steps heavy, his boots clomping across the planks of the wooden deck. He was wearing aviators so I couldn’t see his eyes. But when he lifted his hand to remove them, my gaze immediately tracked his raw, split knuckles.

Without thought, I reached out and grabbed his hand to stare at it.

He didn’t say anything, merely waited for me to come to my own conclusion.

“Club business?”

He nodded slowly.

Viper had said he was muscle for the club. After seeing his knuckles, it became real for me. He lived violence. He sought it out.

“You good, man?” one of the bikers asked as he came up the porch steps.

Viper nodded.

“Your woman gonna take care of you?” the blond biker asked.

I bit my tongue to stop from replying.

“Yeah, she’ll take care of me.” Viper’s tone sounded far too suggestive.

The other men smiled.

“Brooklyn doesn’t like it when I come home to her without a shower,” the silver fox said. He had salt and pepper hair and several days of dark scruff. “Don’t want her blood pressure to skyrocket. She is pregnant, after all.”

The blond looked at me. “Hey. I’m Boxer.”

“Slash,” the silver fox introduced.

“Nice to meet you,” I murmured.

“I’ll be taking Sutton to work, and then I’ll hang around for her shift,” Viper said.

“I’ll see if I can convince Doc to stop off for a beer,” Boxer said.

“Count me out,” Slash said.

“Ah, domestic bliss,” Boxer joked.

“Why would I want to be out with you assholes when I could be in bed with my woman?” Slash asked. “On that note, I’m showering and heading home.”

“She’s not at home,” I said. “She came to the clubhouse to hang out for a bit, but then she said she had to get back to the bakery. Something about this being wedding season.”

“Motherfucker,” Slash growled right before he turned and strode to his bike.

“What did I say?” I asked in confusion.

“Slash is overprotective and wants Brooklyn off her feet,” Boxer explained.

“Okay.” I frowned.

“He thought she was at home. That’s where she told him she’d be,” Boxer added.

“Ah.” I winced. “Did I just start a fight?”

“Yup.” Boxer grinned. “Don’t worry. It’ll end well for both of them. I’m gonna crash for a bit. I was up at the ass-crack of dawn. Later, guys.”

Boxer went into the clubhouse and left me alone with Viper.
