“Your bar baby is contending with your real baby, huh?” I asked.

“And my teenage son,” she said. “We have a thirteen-year-old boy.”

“You have ateenager?” I asked in shock.

“Adopted,” she explained with a grin. “Silas. You’ll meet him Sunday at the barbecue.”

“The barbecue, right,” I said. “Why am I getting the feeling that the barbecue is more than just a barbecue?”

“Whatever do you mean?” Mia drawled.

“I mean, you say it’s so I can meet everyone, but is it that? Or is it so everyone can scrutinize me and Viper?”

“Yes. That.” Mia laughed. “My word of advice for all of this? Just roll with it.”

“Easy for you to say. No doubt you had your own scrutinizing when you got together with Colt.”

“Boy, did I,” she said. “But that’s another story for another day. Now, let me teach you how to make flaming shots. It drives the college crowd wild.”

Viper somehow managed to hold his tongue. After my shift, without a word, I hopped on the back of his bike, and he drove us to the clubhouse.

It was familiar and comfortable, and I had to be careful. This wasn’t my home.

There were several bikes parked on the gravel lot, and when Viper cut the engine, I immediately heard laughter and conversation in the air. A party was clearly underway in the backyard.

Viper grabbed my hand and led the way into the clubhouse. I took two steps for his every one, nearly jogging to keep up with him. He led me past the kitchen with liquor bottles and red cups. Acid sat on the couch with a woman straddling him. She ran her fingers through his hair and bent down to kiss him.

Raze was in the recliner, getting similar ministrations.

Booze and sex were rampant this night.

I kept my eyes on Viper’s back as he led me deeper into the clubhouse and up the stairs. He guided me to his room and shut the door.

Energy crackled between us.

I turned to face him, prepared to give him sass, but his expression said he wasn’t in the mood.

“You were a flirty brat tonight,” he rumbled.

“Was I?” I crossed my arms over my chest and cocked a hip. My stance was pugnacious, and Viper’s eyes suddenly gleamed.

“You know you were.”

I shrugged. “Tips were good tonight. So, I won’t make any apologies.”

“You did it on purpose. To piss me off. You gave out your number seven times.”

“Six,” I corrected.

“Seven. There was that guy who cornered you when you came back from the bathroom.”

“Oh right. I’d forgotten about him.”

He strode toward me, his steps controlled.

My heart beat in trepidation, but not outright fear. I didn’t fear Viper. Even when he was in a shit mood.
