“Don’t apologize,” Mia said. “We all get the late nights. Biker chicks, remember?”

“So true,” a blonde with a pixie cut said. “We haven’t met yet. I’m Linden. Everyone calls me Doc.”

“Oh,you’reDoc. Nice to meet you.” I smiled.

“My reputation precedes me?” she asked with a grin.

“Yeah, your workaholic reputation precedes you,” Darcy teased. “When we bombarded Sutton at the clubhouse the other day, we said she’d meet you and Rach later.”

“I’m Rach,” a pretty brunette greeted.

“Aren’t a few of you missing babies?” I inquired.

Allison giggled. “They’re down for their naps.”

“Thank God, too,” Joni said. “Everett had a night. Meaning Zip and I had a night.”

“I’m just glad Cash is with my mom,” Rach said. “So I can enjoy myself without having to worry about him.”

“Hmm, something to look forward to,” Brooklyn said, rubbing her baby bump. “Right, Willa?”

“Right,” Willa agreed.

Two gangly boys on the verge of teenager-hood were kicking a soccer ball back and forth, and the little girl—Lily—was sitting under the shade of a tree with Waverly and Sailor. Waverly saw me and waved. I waved back.

“I want an update on the Sutton-Viper situation,” Joni said.

“It’s been like two days since I’ve seen you. How much do you think has changed?” I asked in amusement.

“With these men?” Joni said. “A lot.”

Mia nodded in agreement. “Viper keeps glancing at you, and I swear he looks ten percent less scowly.”

“A marginal improvement. Give me a few more days, I’m sure I can bring that number up,” I said with a laugh. “You guys have no filter; you get that, right?”

“That’s this crowd,” Doc said. “I felt the same way when they brought me into the fold. You get used to their straight-shooting ways.”

“I’ll be better for it, I’m sure,” I said. “I’m gonna go grab a soda. Anyone want anything?”

They all shook their heads, and I left them to talk. I went to one of the coolers and pulled it open. Beer.

“The one by the table,” the guy at the grill called out. He was shorter than most of the bikers, had a gray ponytail and had definitely settled into middle age.

I went to the cooler he mentioned and pulled out a soda. “Thanks,” I said, walking to him. “I would’ve been looking for days. I haven’t met you yet. I’m Sutton.”

“Gray,” he said. “Darcy’s my Old Lady.”

“Ah, Lily is your little tutu-wearing hellion.” I grinned. “Nice to meet you.”

“You too. How do you like your burgers cooked?”

“Medium-rare,” I said.

“I’ll make sure not to overcook yours.” He winked and immediately got back to manning the grill.

I cracked open the soda and took a long drink. I wandered toward Viper, who was standing with Savage, Duke, Smoke and Bones. I gently stole a hand across his back as I passed the men but didn’t stop to engage in conversation with them.

I continued my trek across the lawn toward a shady tree with the girls sitting underneath it.
