Joni swiped a hand at her husband’s thigh. Her palm came away bloody.

“You first,” Doc commanded. “Office, now.”

“Usually, I only take orders from my wife.” Zip grimaced. “But you’ve got the painkillers.”

From what I could see, most of the injuries were superficial.

“I need to sit,” Viper murmured.

He eased into a recliner and released a breath.

“What can I get for you?” I asked him quietly.

“Bourbon and a bag of ice.”

“Got it.” I brushed my lips across his forehead.

I went to the kitchen and smiled at Allison, who was running her hands all over Torque’s body, checking for wounds. Rach was attending to Bones, Smoke, and Kelp, but all they wanted was liquor.

Brooklyn and Slash had disappeared, no doubt looking for a more private place.

“Sit,” Mia commanded her husband.

“If I sit, I won’t get back up again,” he said, his voice filled with exhaustion.

Waverly appeared in the living room, her red hair thrown into a messy bun. “I heard voices,” she explained. “And Lily is missing.”

“Lily’s with Darcy,” Mia said.

“Is Willa with Duke?”

Mia stepped away from tending to her husband to grasp Waverly’s hand. “Willa went to the hospital. Savage was shot. He’s in critical condition.”

Waverly blinked blue eyes—the message slow to register. When it finally hit home, she nodded and swallowed.

“We lost Gray tonight,” Mia said quietly. “The kids don’t know yet.”

Waverly closed her eyes and nodded again. Her phone buzzed in her hand. She opened her eyes and looked down at the screen.

“It’s Willa,” she said. She pressed a button and put the phone to her ear. “Hey. No. You didn’t wake me.”

Waverly headed to the door, obviously craving some privacy. “Yeah, I just heard…”

She shut the front door, and I could no longer hear her voice.

A door opened and a moment later, Doc appeared in the living room. “Who’s next?”

“Viper,” I volunteered.

“Sutton,” he growled.

“Don’tSuttonme. Let her examine your ribs.”

He rose from his spot and grimaced, but he dutifully followed Doc down the hallway to the office. Zip was coming out, leaning against Joni.

“Can you make it up the stairs?” Doc asked him.

“Yes,” Zip said.
