“Noted.” I snorted.

“So, you know Carla well then, yeah?”

“Well enough to go to her in the middle of the night with areallybig problem. What about you? How well do you know her?” I asked.

“We just met, actually. About a week ago.” He rubbed his jaw. His blond hair had that artful look of having had fingers run through it recently, and it totally worked for him.

“Don’t fuck with her,” I said quietly.

Savage frowned. “Fuck with her? In what way would I fuck with her?”

I didn’t want to spill anything about Carla’s history to Savage, but as her friend, I felt like it was my duty to at least send a warning shot. “She’s had a crappy past with men. So don’t promise her anything or lie to her about whatever it is you two are.”

“Ah.” Savage took a sip of his coffee. “I get you. And believe me, you don’t have to worry. Carla has made it very clear what she wants from me—and that’s nothing serious.”

“Okay.” I nodded.

It wasn’t any of my business, getting involved in Carla’s love life. Just like she never got involved in mine. But she was the closest friend I had and the last thing I wanted for her was another broken heart.

We didn’t have time for broken hearts. We were too busy trying to wrangle life.

I heard the door to the office open and a moment later Viper and Colt strode across the wooden floor.

“You ready?” Viper asked me.

“Ready?” I frowned. “Ready for what?”

“You need some girlie shit, don’t you?”

I raised my brows. “Girlie shit? You mean, like, a hairbrush?”

“Like I said, girlie shit,” Viper said and then left the clubhouse.

I looked at Savage, who had a smirk streaking across his face.

“Mia will be at Shelly’s around three,” Colt said to me. “You can meet her then.”

I nodded and stood up. I went to the sink and washed out my mug before putting it in the dishwasher.

“Later,” I said to Savage.

“Later. Don’t let him intimidate you.”

“I won’t,” I assured him.

I headed outside, breathing in a lungful of humidity. Viper was already at his bike, waiting for me.

He handed me the helmet without a word.

“Are you my designated chauffeur now?” I teased.

Viper grunted.

“I’ll take your grunt as a yes. Just as well,” I muttered. “I don’t have a car.”

“No car? How were you getting to work?”

“There’s this thing. Maybe you’ve heard of it. Long, metal contraption. It has an engine, and a bunch of people wait for it every day and it takes them places.”
