“This is Viper,” Savage introduced. “You’re going with him.”
Viper and I were staring at each other, and it took me a moment to realize that Savage had spoken.
“Say what now?” I asked. “Go with him? I don’t even know him. I don’t even knowyou.”
“You’ll go with him,” Savage commanded. “While I take care of shit here.”
“Why are you helping me?” I demanded.
“That’s not important right now. You just need to go with him. Okay?”
I looked at Carla for direction.
She nodded. “You’ll be safe with Viper.”
Viper’s hands hung by his sides and suddenly he clenched them into massive fists.
Safe? Safe with a man who looked like he could crush my skull with his bare hands?
“Did I get everything from your trailer that you can’t possibly live without?” Savage asked, a slow smirk appearing on his face.
I glared at him, whirled, and marched to the bedroom, Savage’s laugh booming behind me.
Five minutes later, my hair was up in a messy bun, and I was ready to go.
I came back into the kitchen, interrupting Carla and Savage. He had her backed against the counter, his body pressed to hers, his hands on her hips.
“Sorry,” I muttered.
“Don’t worry about it,” Carla said, placing her hand to Savage’s chest and pushing him back. She grabbed my purse and cell phone and handed them to me.
“Where’s Viper?” I asked.
“Out front,” Savage replied.
“Where’s he taking me?”
“Ask him,” Savage said. “Though, good luck getting an answer out of him. He doesn’t talk much.”
I headed out the front door. The lights of the porch illuminated Viper as he sat astride his motorcycle. I came down the stairs and put my phone into my purse and zipped it up.
Viper’s intense gaze followed me every step of the way.
Somehow, I knew I’d be safe with him.
That didn’t mean I didn’t find him incredibly intimidating.
He reached behind him and picked up a helmet and held it out to me.
I slung my purse across my chest and removed my hair tie, letting my damp locks fall across my shoulders and back. I took the helmet from him and placed it on my head and then slid the buckle into its mate.
It was too big.
Before I had a chance to cinch the strap tighter, Viper’s hands were suddenly underneath my chin to do it for me.
“Thank you,” I said.
He grunted.
