“So it wasn't an act?” she whispers, her brows drawing together.

“I can't tell if you'd rather I say yes or no.”

Her mouth screws up in a scowl before she lands an ineffective shove on my shoulder. I grab her wrist before she can pull it back, then press my lips to her knuckles. “I meant it. I shouldn't have surprised you like that, but I couldn't help myself. I see what I want, and I take it. I want you.”

“So you announce our relationship in public? And now, if I don't agree, everyone will know we aren't together. That is some manipulative shit.”

“I promise you, that's not how I intended it. Willow, last night I had no choice but to watch you walk away. Call it a moment of clarity, but I realized then and there I don't ever want to be in that position again. I want you. Always.”

Slowly, her gaze softens along with the rest of her. The creases smooth out between her brows, and her scowl turns to something gentler. “Well, let's not start making wedding plans yet. I'm not trying to rush things. We both still have our businesses and people who count on us.”

If my heart swells much more, there won’t be enough room in my chest. “Of course.”

Finally, her eyes twinkle. “But… always does sound good. Who would have thought the boy who made me miserable in high school and the man of my dreams would end up being the same person?”

I’ve gone entirely too long without kissing this woman, whose face I now take between my palms before touching my lips to hers. The fact that it feels like I’ve been kissing her all my life can’t be my imagination playing tricks on me.

But I do intend to kiss her for the rest of my life. No doubt about that.
