He squeezed my hand. “Don’t for one second think you don’t deserve to be there. It’s your dream.”

My eyes flashed down, knowing I wouldn’t have gotten the spot without Martine’s unwanted assistance.

My phone rang again. Seren released my hand and grabbed it. “Hello?” Worry filled his eyes. “I’m sorry you had to find out like that, little brother. Saint should’ve used better judgment.” His lips twisted, clearly pissed by the way Saint must’ve delivered the news to Sawyer. “I promise we’re gonna take care of him. All three of us. Just keep your distance so you don’t do anything rash. We can’t afford a slip-up that lets him know we know. Keep your eye on mom. Hang out in the kitchen so he can’t get her a drink without you seeing. Right now, that’s all we can do. Did Saint tell you the plan?” He listened for a long moment. “Yeah. I need you to be stealthy. Get in that office and find what we need to get this motherfucker thrown in jail. You won’t have much time, but I know you’ll find something. Just get out before the lights go on and the cameras start up.” He ended the call and looked at me.

“All good?”

“Time will tell,” he said, exhaustion clouding his eyes.

I knew the feeling. Carrying the truth was like a heavy weight. “I’m gonna stream your first game,” I said, trying to redirect his thoughts.

His eyes lit up. “Yeah?”

“I need to see what all the hype’s about.”

“Hype?”

“So, you’ve told me.”

He chuckled. “We’ll see if I get any playing time.”

“You will.”

His eyes narrowed. “How do you know?”

“You’re Seren Grayson.”

His head dropped back and he laughed. “Damn straight I am.”

Leaving him again would be difficult, but this time I knew it wouldn’t be forever. “I never thought I’d hear you laugh again.”

“Come here.” He took my hand, urging me to my feet and onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around me. “I’m not going anywhere.”

My lips twisted, not really sure what to say becauseIwas going somewhere.

“Do you know how hard it was to get you to trust me?” Seren asked. “There’s no way I’deverblow my shot.”

I laughed, and he tightened his arms around me.

“I’m yours, Grace.”

My belly dipped.

“For as long as you’ll have me,” he continued.

“Forever,” I whispered.

He pulled back, examining my face for the punchline. “Promise?”

I nodded, loving that I could still surprise him. He closed his eyes, and relief washed over his features as if he needed that assurance. Martine had taken a month away from us. He’d never take another day.

CHAPTER 44

Seren

It had been a long week with Grace back in Tampa, football practices kicking my ass, and my brothers calling me from everywhere but the manor. My prepaid phone buzzed as I crossed campus after practice on Friday night. Grace’s name filled my screen. “Hey, babe,” I answered.

“Hi.”
