“So, that’s where we’re going? You could have just told me that.”

“I prefer making you squirm a bit.” He moves his hand inward and squeezes my inner thigh.

I grin out the window. “Oh, I know. I’m pretty sure you have a kink for making me beg.”

“I think I just have an Adalyn kink.”

I turn my head to look at him, batting my lashes. “Aw. That was sweet.”

“It’s true. There are a million things I never thought I would be interested in until you introduced me to them.”

“Like?”

“I never took myself for an exhibitionist, but with you, I just can’t help myself the majority of the time.”

“I’m happy to be of service when it comes to broadening your horizons, Sparrow,” I proclaim.

“Should I be worried about what you have in mind for me for the rest of my life?”

My heart flutters at his promise of a future together. He’s said things like this a million times over the past week, but I could hear him promise me forever a million times more, and it would never be enough.

“A little, but that’s what makes it fun,” I reply.

He shakes his head, smiling softly. An easy silence falls between us as we continue down the backroad, my Jeep kicking rocks and dust behind us. The metal gate that stands at the forefront of my parents’ acreage appears after ten more minutes of driving. It’s already open, and we drive through it and up the winding driveway.

The number of cars in front of the house is surprising, but not because it’s unusual. I just wasn’t expecting so many people to be here today. When it comes to my family, a full driveway means a whole shit load of fun and craziness.

“Did I forget someone’s birthday?” I ask when he parks between my uncle Tyler’s SUV and my dad’s truck.

Turning off the vehicle, he shakes his head. “No birthday, love.”

“So . . .” I arch a questioning brow.

“So, you’ll see when you stop asking questions and come inside.”

“Is it a surprise for me? Because if not, I’m going to feel a bit teased, not gonna lie,” I say before hopping out and rounding the hood to meet him.

He hooks an arm around my waist and brings me in close as we start toward the house. The warm breeze rustles the material of my skirt, making it swoosh along my ankles. I hope I’m not overdressed, but Cooper picked this out for me himself. A matching white ruffled skirt and cropped tank set weren’t what I expected him to choose, but it’s one of my favourite outfits, so there were no complaints from me.

The front door is already open when we reach the porch, with my dad waiting for us. I smile at him and quickly kiss his cheek.

“Hey, Dad. I feel so special getting such a personal welcome, but we can let ourselves in on our own.” I laugh.

“I know, sweetheart. Come in.” He steps to the side, and Cooper and I follow him inside.

The silence inside is all sorts of suspicious. I look around the empty main room, confused. “Why is it so quiet? I know everyone is here.”

“They’re in the backyard,” Dad answers. Cooper’s fingers ghost my spine.

“Are Tiny and Noah still here?”

Dad nods. “They are.”

“Jamieson and Oliver?” It’s been forever since I’ve seen my cousins.

“So many questions,” Cooper murmurs into my ear, the words just for me. “Patience, Adalyn.”

“They came with your aunt and uncle,” Dad answers me.
