“Don’t start, Adalyn,” I whisper, turning my back to the extra bed and locking those thoughts up and away where I hope I’ll never find them again.

* * *

“You’re not seriously goingto kiss that,” Cooper sputters where he stands, watching me in disbelief.

I grin wide and continue lowering myself to the stone castle floor. The Blarney Stone is directly behind me now, and I sneak a peek of it over my shoulder before waggling my brows at Cooper.

Kissing the stone is known to give you the power of eloquent speech. I don’t think I believe that, but I want to give it a go anyway. Cooper, on the other hand . . .

“Are you really going to make me kiss it alone?” I ask.

“You’re going to get a disease if you put your lips on that wall, and one of us needs to be able to go home and explain to our families what happened.”

“Maybe you’ll agree once I kiss it and get this alleged eloquent speech that’s supposed to be bestowed upon me after. I’m already a great smooth talker, so I’m about to get a lot more dangerous.

“It won’t work. I agree to a lot of things, but this? Not a chance.”

“Is it the kissing that has you worried or the fact you could fall through the space in between the floor and the stone?”

“Both,” he states.

I huff. “Fine. Will you at least hold my ankles so I don’t plummet to my death?”

“Of course.” Stepping up beside me, he waits for me to recline until my back meets the stone. “Don’t try to test the limits with this and just hold on to the bars like you’re supposed to.”

“Give me some credit here. I’m a risk taker, but I’m not dumb.” With a wink, I wait for him to grip my ankles and then dip my neck over the ledge, reaching for the bars on the wall.

My abs engage as I pull myself closer to the wall, and Cooper tightens his hold on my ankles. Apparently, I trust him even more than I thought because I don’t have a single worry about falling as long as he’s holding me up.

“I’m gonna kiss it now,” I sing.

“It was nice knowing you,” he mutters back.

“Loosen up a bit, babes. You’re too young to have such a massive stick up your ass.”

“I thought I was old.”

I roar a laugh. “You got me there.”

My lips meet the stone for less than a second before I’m pulling them away and hauling myself back into a sitting position. Cooper is by my feet, and his hands linger for a moment before he snatches them back.

“Feel accomplished?” he asks.

“Very. Now it’s your turn.”

He stands, glancing around nonchalantly at the people around us. “Funny. But I think it’s time to go. I’m quite hungry.”

“I’ll let you choose our dinner spot if you kiss the stone.”

“How many more times are you going to ask me to do this?”

I shrug. “A million, give or take a few.”

His expression is far less serious now, as if he’s beginning to give in to me. My pride swells as I push harder. “It would make a great photo op.”

“For you?”

“For you and me. I’m sure your dad would love to see you stepping out of your comfort zone.”
