He squeezed her fingers. “I’m glad you feel that way with me because I will take care of you.”

“If you do dare,” the woman on the stage continued. “Press the button underneath your table and one of us will be out to get you prepared.”

More hoots ran around the place.

“As for the rest of you, get another round of drinks on the house and settle in for some jazz tunes.”

The spotlight over the woman went out, and the bar was illuminated with a soft glow of multicolor lights.

“I hit the button,” Lisa said.

Langston laughed and drew her in for a kiss on her forehead. “So did I.”

The womanwho had been on the stage appeared moments later and greeted them with a smile. “Ready for the adventure of a lifetime?” she asked.

Lisa nodded. “We are.”

Langston nodded, and the woman motioned for them to follow her into a private room, smelling strongly of jasmine. Inside was a makeshift bed covered in dark cotton sheets, with a few candles providing illumination.

“Welcome, and congratulations on making this decisive decision,” the woman said. “This is where I am going to prepare you for the show. Will this be your first time participating in a live show?” the woman asked Lisa.

“Yes.”

“It’s okay to be nervous, but your partner will ensure you are comfortable.”

“Wait.” Lisa looked at Langston. “Have you ever done this before?”

“No.”

“Oh...” she exhaled as if she’d been holding her breath.

He glanced at the woman. “She’s already comfortable with me.” He looked back at Lisa. “She’ll be okay.”

Lisa blushed, and the woman nodded. “I want to remind you that what happens here stays here.” She gestured around the room. “No one knows who you are but me. Not even the employees.”

She handed them an ink pen. “This NDA is between the three of us. I’m not permitted to use your name or likeness in any way, and you’re not permitted to speak about this experience with anyone other than yourselves.”

They signed the paperwork and added details about tattoos and birthmarks.

“Would you like masks?”

Lisa glanced at Langston and then back to the woman. “Do we need them?”

“No. But some people prefer to keep their faces hidden.”

“We’re good.”

She nodded. “Great. Your show begins in fifteen minutes. If you need anything, there’s a button on the headboard. Tap that, and the show ends immediately.”

“We understand,” Langston said. “Now get out.”

Laughter crooned from them all, and the woman turned and left the space.
