“Yes.”

“Oh, no, not this again.”

Langston frowned. “Again?”

“I got the feeling someone was following me the other day. They made every turn I made, but when I pulled into the police precinct, they drove past.”

“Why didn’t you tell me this?”

She hesitated. “I don’t know. I thought maybe I was imagining things, so I went on my way.”

Langston sucked his teeth. “What kind of vehicle was it?”

“Um...” She thought for a minute. “A black Jeep, I guess. Tinted windows. You couldn’t see who was inside.”

Langston’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. “Lisa, if anyone follows you or makes you feel scared or unsafe, please tell me.”

“I will.” She kissed him on his face and added, “I’m sorry.”

Langston took a deep breath and relaxed into the warmth that her caress had brought him. “Don’t be sorry, be careful.”

“I will.”

“First the computer issue and now I find out you were followed. I need to know your schedule for the next several weeks; I’m definitely putting security personnel on you.”

“This weekend, Genesis Rising is performing at the Chic Gala. But that’s the closest to an event I have. The next one isn’t for three weeks. Between that time, I’ll be doing normal everyday things. Do you want me to write them down?”

“No. I’ll have someone on you every time you move.”

Lisa stared at him, and he glanced at her.

“Should I be worried? Do you think it’s a crazed fan or something?”

“It’s possible.”

“You don’t sound so sure.”

“With your career, I would’ve thought it most likely was a fan.”

“But?”

He sighed. “I don’t want to alarm you, Lisa.”

“Consider me alarmed. Someone followed me twice now.” She shrugged. “My nerves are rattled. You might as well tell me what’s behind thebut.”

Silence filled the car.

“Langston, your silence is making it worse.”

“Someone hacked your computer, Lisa. They built what they thought was a secure cyber partition where their presence could go undetected. If this is a fan, they are in big trouble. Regardless, whoever it is, is adamant about watching you. But I don’t want you to worry. They’ve made some mistakes that will cost them.”

Lisa sucked in a breath. Langston’s words felt reassuring. “What mistakes?”

“They didn’t take into account that I would be here to stop them.”

A smile eased across her face. “You have no obligation to me, Langston. You don’t have to help.”

He pulled into the parking lot of her home and turned to her. “Now that you’ve got that off your chest, don’t ever say it again to me, okay?”
