Lisa clutched the card in her fist and nodded and rushed after Langston.

In the hallway, Destiny reached for Langston’s arm when she was stopped in her tracks by Lisa’s hand yanking on the back of her dress. “What the hell…” She was jerked into an about-face. Her eyes widening when they met up with Lisa’s.

“Leave him alone.” Lisa’s furious glare was scorching.

“Are you out of your mind? Don’t ever touch me.”

“I said...leave him alone.”

“Who do you think you are to tell me what to do? I’ll do as I please. Stay out of my way!”

Lisa hauled back and slapped Destiny across her face so hard Destiny dropped to her knees, a wave of pain rattling through her body.

Lisa pointed at Destiny. “Bitch.” She sucked in a breath and remembered where she was. “Don’t ever come around him again.” She leaned down and whispered as tears clouded Destiny’s eyes. “Or I’ll beat your ass into the ground.”

She rose, stared long enough to get her point across, then went after Langston.

She rushed into the lobby, looked around, and found him walking back toward her. Her nerves were rattled. What she’d just witnessed was overwhelming, so she could only imagine how he felt.

Their eyes remained locked as he approached, and she opened her mouth to speak. “Langston—”

“I need you,” he said, grabbing her hand. “I need you.” His gaze pleaded with her, and a knot formed in Lisa’s stomach.

She nodded frantically. “Okay. Yes.”

He tightened his grip, turned, and they rushed across the space and stepped onto an elevator that had just emptied.

The doors closed, and he hit the highest floor and turned to face Lisa. “I need to tell you something.”

“Okay.”

“Earlier, I told you that you’d healed me in ways I didn’t realize needed it.”

She nodded.

“What I meant was, I didn’t realize I was missing authentic love until you showed me what it was like to live life in authenticity. The nature of your soul, when you enjoy time spent, when you go with the flow, when you get lost in the moment, and when you go above and beyond to make those around you happy, showed me that your heart is pure gold.”

He shook his head in disbelief. “I don’t want to make this about others, but I can’t help noticing how selfish and ill-intended the women I’ve known before you were. And I know this goes against our rule.”

He pinned her against the elevator wall. “I understand it’s a deal-breaker,” he murmured as he kissed her forehead. “But Lisa, I want to love you.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “I need to love you.” He dropped his lips to her mouth, and she moaned as his tongue entered.

He dipped and slapped her thighs in a harsh grip, lifting her as their kiss deepened.

“I want to love you in a way that crosses the lines of friends, shatters the realm of benefits, and blossoms into deep, sincere love.” Their kiss deepened, their lips crushed together, and their hearts raced against each other’s chest.

“Let me love you, Lisa...”

Tears filled Lisa’s eyes, she framed his face with her hands, and they spoke simultaneously. “I love you.”

Surprise and elation filled their gazes, then desire...they kissed heatedly, repeatedly, until the elevator stopped. It was long enough for Langston to tear his mouth away and assess their situation.

“I have a room key, given to me by Tina.” She removed it and held it up, and Langston’s gaze sparkled.

He inserted the key and hit the number for their level, but he turned back and reclaimed her mouth, unable to wait until they arrived to taste her again.
