A piece of chicken lodges in my throat, and I cough. “Excuse me?”

CHAPTER SEVEN

Zoey

“Your foot…” He smirks, knowing full well the undertone of the statement. “Let me fix your toe.”

Nodding, I let out a small laugh. “Honestly, it’s fine. Your dinner is getting cold.”

Blake takes a seat next to me, then leans down, holding my calf in his hand. The second his fingers touch my bare skin, it’s like fireworks and electric zaps shoot straight from my calf to my clit. I gasp as his fingers gently lift my leg and place my foot on his lap.

He leans across, grabs the antiseptic, and gets to work, but I can’t concentrate on anything other than the fact that I am sitting here, my foot on his lap, and his hands are all over my damn leg. It’s extremely difficult to focus. And pain? I can’t even feel pain anymore. Pleasure? Well, that’s something else.

Pretty sure this is what euphoria feels like. Or is it delirium? Maybe I died? Maybe I fell over while chasing the cat and hit my head? Because the way his fingers are gliding up and down my calf cannotbe real. His touch is so soft, tender, and damn alluring that I swear I’m lost in a dream-like state.

“There. All fixed,” Blake states breaking me from my thoughts.

I glance down at the oversized bandage on my toe and shake my head a little, not even realizing he was doing that. I was so lost in him touching me that I had no idea the lengths he had gone to in bandaging such a small cut.

Clearing my throat, I drop my leg from his lap before I make myself any more obvious and turn to face the counter. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome… I moonlight as Dr. McDreamy.”

I snap my head to him, furrowing my brows. “That’s the guy fromGrey’s Anatomy?”

He chuckles. “Exactly. I was making a joke.”

I make an ‘O’ shape with my mouth. “Oh, because you were doing medical stuff, and you think you’re hot?”

He chuckles. “Well… yeah?”

I snort. “Okay, you keep telling yourself that, McDreamy.”

He grins and picks up a chicken tender. “So, you look… different.” His eyes wander over me up and down as he munches on the crispy chicken.

I jerk my head back with a smile. “I don’t know whether that’s a good or a bad thing?”

He chuckles. “I just mean… I see you every day dressed the same way. I’ve never seen you in a dress like this. You look…nice.”

My face instantly flames with heat, and I look away from him for fear of giving myself away.

Hailee giggles beside us. “I think she dressed up because you were coming over because she normally looks like a homeless old lady when she gets home from work—”

“Hailee!” I berate, horrified.

Blake chuckles like he’s enjoying himself and the crazy he’s walked into.

His eyes continue to linger on me as he wrestles with his tie, undoing it, then places it on the counter next to his dinner box. “Honestly, you’d pull off the homeless look and still be amazing.”

My eyes meet his for the briefest of moments before Hailee interrupts again. “I mean… Mom looks pretty all the time. She just wanted to look less like a mom tonight, more like she was on…a date?”

I widen my eyes, glaring at her. “Oh my God, Hailee!” I turn to Blake, who’s smirking, and shake my head.

“I’m so sorry about her. For seven, you’d think she’s going on sixteen. She gets excited easily—”

“So, thisisn’ta date?” Hailee asks.

Letting out an exhale, I slump my shoulders and dust off my salt-covered fingers. “No, Starshine. Not a date. Anarrangement.”
