It’s the first time I’ve heard him say that.

We’ve been ‘fake dating’ for weeks, but it’s the first time he’s used the term ‘boyfriend.’

I have to admit I like how it feels.

I’m getting lost in Blake’s kiss, becoming swept up in the moment, everything fading away, and it’s just Blake and me surrounded by flickering candles and the smell of fragrant flowers.

It’s intoxicating.

Barbara suddenly clears her throat. “Congratulations on finding someone, Zoey. I thought you were going to be a spinster, pining over my Kyle forever.”

Double cunt.

Pulling back from Blake slowly, I lick my lips, still hanging onto him because my feet feel a little wobbly from the insane kiss I just shared with him. “No pining on my end, Barbara.”

She pats my shoulder tauntingly. “Okay, darling… sure thing. Whatever you say.”

Urgh, Ihatethis woman.

“It’s good to see you again, Barbara, but we should take our seats before Tamara arrives,” I tell her.

She glances at her watch. “Yes, she should be here soon. You wait until you see what Tamara is wearing. She looks stunning, unlike you, darling.” The bitch sighs. “Thisisa wedding, not a funeral. Everyone knows you don’t wear black to a wedding.”

Smiling wide, I look her in the eyes. “You do when you’d rather be dead than be here.”

Blake widens his eyes, trying to hide his smirk as Barbara slams her hand to her chest in shock. “Oh, Zoey, my gosh. Today is a celebration. Let’s not dwell on such negativity.”

Nodding, I fake smile. “Sure, Barbara.”

She scoffs out her disgust, then turns, storming off. I let out a small chuckle, not being able to contain my amusement. Blake turns to me with a giant grin on his face. “You nailed that. You don’t need me.”

I bite down on my bottom lip and jut out my hip. “Boyfriend, huh?”

He shrugs. “It’s the whole reason I’m here, right?”

I inhale quickly. “And the kiss?”

He grins mischievously. “It was a great kiss… certainly has Kyle looking our way.”

I side-eye Kyle to see him watching us intently. So, to play it up even more, I cuddle into Blake’s side and move us to sit. “You’d think with him about to get married, he should be caring less about what I’m doing.”

Blake snorts. “He wants to be able to control you, Zoey. He knows that if I’m in your life, or any guy for that matter, he is going to have trouble doing that. He’s feeling threatened right now, and for a narcissist like him, he won’t be liking that.”

“Fuck him,” I mumble under my breath, making Blake chuckle.

“Yeah, fuck him.”

I turn to look at Blake, and I can’t help but smile. “Thank you… for being here. For doing this for me today.”

His eyes meet mine. “It’s my pleasure. Fake dating you has been one of the best things I have ever done.”

Smiling, I want to tell him…

Maybe it shouldn’t be fake.

Maybe we should try to take this further.

But then his cell starts ringing.
