As I walk with Zoey and we bring all my stuff inside the house, she glances down at the bag from the toy store. “What’s that you got there?”
Placing it on the kitchen counter, I glance around for Hailee while I place the cat crate on the counter. “I got Hailee a little something.
Zoey smirks. “Trying to bribe her affection, huh?”
I roll my eyes. “No, I saw it online and wanted Hailee to have it.”
“I can see you’re going to spoil her, aren’t you?”
“She deserves a father figure whoisgoing to spoil her. I want to be the father she can look up to, the one she can come to when she needs advice. I want to be here for her, Zoey. Especially when I know Kyle won’t be good at this stuff.”
Zoey’s eyes glisten, and she nods. “Yeah, he spends all his time in his room playing video games rather than spending time with her. His classic move is to buy himself toys instead of her.”
“My point exactly. I want to be the type of dad Haileeshouldhave had.”
Zoey steps forward, wrapping her arms around my neck, and gently kisses me. “You’re amazing.”
My hands slide down to her ass, squeezing her butt cheeks and pulling her closer to me. I waggle my brows as I smirk. “I can’t wait for tonigh—”
“Blake! You’re here,” Hailee calls out, running up to us excitedly as she jogs down the stairs.
I let Zoey go with a wink and get ready to be tackled as Hailee slams into me. I embrace her back with a chuckle. “Hey, kiddo, you have a good day?”
“Mommy told me you’re staying with us for a few days. I’m so excited. Beast and Mr. Muggles are going to have the best time, and you and I are gonna have so much fun. We can watch a different Disney movie every night.”
You’d think that would freak me out.
All it does is make me feel like I am exactly where I need to be.
Zoey glances at me like she’s expecting this to all be too much for me, but I pick up Hailee’s present and hand it to her. “That sounds amazing, and we can start it off with this guy.”
Hailee stares up at me in awe. “You got me a present?”
“I sure did.”
She looks from me to Zoey and then back at me. “But it’s not my birthday?”
Zoey and I chuckle. “I got it for you because you’re my friend, and I wanted to do something nice for you.”
“Aww… that’s so nice. Thank you!”
“Are you going to open it?” I ask, and she giggles.
“Oh, yeah!” Cross-legged, she sinks down onto the floorboards and pulls the box apart, trying to figure out what it is. That is until she sees the packaging, and it slowly starts to sink in.
Zoey gasps as Hailee’s eyes widen. “Is this?” she asks, opening the box and pulling out the Limited Edition Chip Talking Teacup with gold edging. The fan-favorite side character fromBeauty and the Beastis quite cute.
“Does hereallytalk?” She beams.
I shrug. “I don’t know. Give him a try.”
Hailee pulls Chip from the packaging and places the teacup on the table, waving her hand across the face. “Wanna see me do a trick?” Chip calls out in the same voice from the movie.
Hailee squeals out in delight. “Oh my God, hedoestalk like in the movie. Mom, did you tell Blake that I wanted one of these?”
Zoey shakes her head. “No, I didnotbecause they cost nearly three hundred dollars.” Zoey looks at me like I’m insane for spending that amount of money on a toy. But seeing Hailee so happy right now is totally worth it.
“Yeah, but look how happy she is,” I explain.
