Arden became confused. “Who? I don’t know any Yeti.”

“It’s just a name I made up for him. The fucker who came to the club Saturday with a bat, the one the size of a yeti.”

“You mean Rocco?”

Doom’s face became even more caustic. “Of course, that’s the fucker’s name. I should have known. He’s the size of a boulder. What’s he to Mama?”

“They’ve been in a relationship ever since I’ve known them.” Being protective, Arden kept their true relationship to herself. Wizard seemed too interested in her friend for it to just be curiosity. Mama was a beautiful woman; it wouldn’t be the first time someone tried to pry information out of her to get an advantage.

“She ever hook up with any other men?”

Maybe Wizard wasn’t the only one interested.

“Never,” she said truthfully. “She’s a one-man woman. Of course, you can try your luck. Good luck with that.”

“I would if I were interested. I’m not.”

“You seem interested.” Arden could have kicked herself for not dropping it.

Doom’s red eyes bore down into hers. “Women like Mama don’t attract me. I prefer women I don’t have to worry will pull out a knife if we get in an argument. I like to keep everything casual, without the expectation of us being in an exclusive relationship. I don’t want to be hooked into a relationship. I’m thirty-six; I won’t get serious about a woman for at least ten more years. By then, I’ll be ready to settle down in a long-term relationship and have a couple of kids.”

Arden couldn’t believe the gall of the man to stand there, basically revealing all he wanted from a woman was sex. Why was she even shocked? It should be The Last Riders’ motto.

“Then I can definitely say Mama isn’t your type of woman. Cheating is a hard no for her.”

Doom’s fingers started caressing the nape of her neck. “Forget Mama.” His voice lowered seductively. “How about you, Arden? What’s your hard no?”

CHAPTER 27

THE GUESS

“Does it matter?” Arden tried to sidle to the left to escape from the heat of his body. Doom had removed his shirt while she’d been in the bedroom. With his jeans hanging low on his hips, she found it hard to keep her eyes on his face instead of letting them roam free.

“Just curious.”

The smile Doom gave her heated her feminine coil like tinder. She nearly reached to the side to turn the faucet on and splash some cold water on her face. Squashing down the raging hormones threatening to make a fool out of her, she mulishly jutted out her chin, which had his head going back. Guess he’s still skittish after getting pepper sprayed, she thought antagonistically.

“All right, then. I’ll tell you. A hard no for me is not getting involved with men like you.”

Arden felt Doom tense against her.

“You think, by stating the obvious, you’ll get a quickie without any woman expecting anything more from you, other than having the pleasure of having sex with you? Am I supposed to feel challenged to get you to break your ten-year plan? Or was that the same sewage you tell all women before you have sex with them, so when you get bored and it gets too messy for you, you can say, Hey, remember when I told you not to take me seriously? Please…” Arden drawled out sarcastically. “You think I haven’t heard that crap before? Look at me. I’m not exactly Miss America. I’m used to men not seeing me, or if they do, I’m supposed to be an easy lay for them to get their rocks off instead of them using their hands.”

Arden glared up at him. “I didn’t need you to reiterate that you, or any of The Last Riders, are emotionally unavailable. Hell, the rules about how to become a member for the women says it for you guys.

“What’s the matter, Doom? Since you no longer live at the club and don’t have the women there at your beck and call, you want me to make myself available to you outside of the club? Worried it might bite you in the ass because you said I wouldn’t get your vote, and you’d be able to keep the members from finding it out you’re hitting it on the side?”

She lifted her hands to push at his chest. “So help me God, if you don’t let me go, I’m going to show you how well I protect myself. And by the time I’m done, your eyes won’t be the only thing hurting!”

Amusement filling his face, Doom held his hands up and met her fiery gaze. “I believe you.”

Realizing she had dropped the shirt, she bent down to pick it up and handed it to him.

He took the shirt and started to put it on then paused, his eyes dropping to the pajama top she was wearing. “Whose shirt is this and the one you’re wearing?”
