Greer looked up, and for the first time that night, our gazes caught and held.

“What’s so messed up about it?” Bain, who’d been farther down the table, asked.

Bain was usually really, really good about staying out of everything that didn’t concern him, but today, when the men from the club learned that Sara and Greer were coming, they got this interested gleam in their eyes. As if someone had somehow learned about what Greer and I had done and now wanted front-row seats to what happened next.

“If I had full coverage on it, it’d likely be totaled,” Greer admitted. “My mom stripped it of everything that she could sell. The dash is completely gone. The back seat. The front passenger seat. The radio. The spare tire. The tire iron. The jack. If it could be taken off and sold, it was taken.”

“How would she know how to take all of that off?” Wake chimed in.

Wake was on the other side of his wife, but he was leaned back in his chair and staring at Greer as if she was the most entertaining thing out there.

“My mom used to be a mechanic. Her father taught her everything he knew and she was able to make a living at it. But when she got pregnant with my sister, she chose to stay at home full time. Meaning, she could damn near tear apart any vehicle she wanted,” Greer replied glumly.

“That’s shit,” Wake said before taking a drink of his beer.

“That’s a lot of shit,” Greer agreed.

“What now?” Kobe asked from the opposite end of the table.

Quite possibly, it was as far away from Folsom as possible, who was on the other end of the table next to Bain and his wife, Diana.

Morrigan and Folsom were best friends. Morrigan was married to Aodhan, who was having a quiet conversation at the end with Cassius and his wife, Alice.

Over the last few years, the only men in the Gator Bait MC that hadn’t managed to get married or find their old lady were Kobe and me. Used to, I didn’t want to be like them with someone holding me down.

But the last few days without Greer here had given me a lot of time to think. And that time to think had been clarifying. I wanted what they had. I wanted Greer.

I wasn’t sure when her presence had become addictive, but it was at the point where I craved the back-and-forth banter with her. If I went a few days—like I had just today and yesterday—without seeing her, I got this weird sort of ache in my chest that made me think that maybe there was something more going on between us than I’d been willing to admit.

“Now.” Greer shrugged. “I guess I admit to Davis that I’m glad he purposefully tampered with my tires and went through the rigamarole of getting all the things fixed on my car while they had it. I now have one working vehicle.”

“What kind of car is the one you went to get?” Wake asked. “I have a young adult driver. She seems to go through cars quite quickly. I don’t mind buying her the bare minimum this time.”

The conversation went on for a few more minutes before I excused myself to go to the bathroom.

While I walked, I lifted my shirt and scratched my belly almost absently as I moved through the crowded grill area of Dud’s.

I entered the bathroom and sighed when I found it completely empty.

I took my time washing my hands and giving myself a pep talk.

Why did I need a pep talk? Because the thought of talking to Greer was enough excitement for me to want to bounce in my chair.

I was officially a little bitch.

Throwing the paper towels into a can in the corner, I yanked open the door to the bathroom.

I came out of the bathroom at the same time that she came out of hers, which was a shock because I hadn’t realized that she’d left at the same time as I had. I’d been amping myself up to talk to her at the table. Not run into her in the middle of the hallway.

With her only a few feet away, the urge to pull her into my grasp and plaster her to me while I took her mouth in a heated kiss yanked at my control.

I wasn’t really sure who moved first.

Likely me, but it could’ve just as easily been her.

One second we were on opposite sides of the hall, and the next, we were at the end of the hallway, in the dark and shadows, and I had her pressed against the back wall with her legs hitched around my waist.

My hand went to her throat as I guided her face where I wanted it, then I took her mouth in a brutal kiss that should’ve pissed her off, but only seemed to turn her on more.
