“Yeah.”

“Why do you run a yacht business, then?” Raffi probes.

“It’s just how we set up the company.”

“Wow… your brother is way cool,” Raffi tells Matty.

“He is. He flies our plane when we go on holiday.”

“That’s way cool!”

We arrive at the club with five minutes to spare. Some kids gather around us, and some watch us from a distance.

“Thanks for the ride, Clayton.” Raffi waves at me.

“Thanks,Mr. Hartley,” Isabelle corrects his son.

“Come on, Clayton is fine,” I counter.

“Dime, ma man!” Raffi joins his friends, and they do a hip-hoppy greeting. “Spreadin’ the jam?”

“Rafael Rebel!” the boy called Dime replies. He then admires my car from where he’s standing. “That’s a bomb!”

Isabelle rolls her eyes. “That boy’s name is Eric. I don’t know why they call him Dime,” she explains to me in amusement. “And I swear, my son doesn’t talk like that at home.”

“Boys gotta do what boys gotta do,” I respond.

“I’ll see you soon,” Isabelle says to Raffi as he and his friends troop along to the court. She then readies herself to leave my car.

“Wait, can I drop you off somewhere? Or, I’m happy to wait with you so I can drive you two home.”

“Um, don’t bother. I’ll take the bus home.”

“Are you trying to minimize your carbon footprint?”

She glares at me playfully. “If I wanted to reduce my carbon footprint, I’d live in Nepal. My car is at the shop. They told me they were struggling to order the spare parts.”

“Ah, yeah. The supply chain is in disarray at the moment.”

“Tell me about it,” she says. “Well, thanks for the ride. I appreciate it.” She then swivels and hops out.

“Wait.” I jump out and round the car to get to her. “Your car—it isn’t under repair because of driver’s negligence, is it?”

She chuckles, looking so irresistible I just want to take her waist and pull her to me.

I extend my key to her. “Take my car.”

“What?” Her eyes pop wide.

“You can have it until you have yours back.”

She stares at my hand. “I… I can’t!”

“Of course you can. Please. Take it.”

“How about you?”

“We’re big boys. We’ll sort out our own transport.”
