“I just had to pee,” I whispered. “I wasn’t running away.”

He grunted. “You sure?”

“Yeah.” I stared up at him as we returned to the chapel. “Did I make you worry?”

The way he glanced down at me and then away again made my stomach tighten. He seemed like such a brute, but the way his brows furrowed and his eyes stayed away from me made me think otherwise. I reached up, smoothing the lines between his brows.

“I really wasn’t going anywhere. My knee still hurts.”

His gaze flickered down then up again. “And you’re okay? After last night?”

I chewed my lip. “As much as I don’t want to admit it, yes. I’m more than fine.” I laughed. “More than I’ve been in a long time.” I squirmed a little. “Except the soreness. Did you guys really keep going once I was out?”

Christian grinned. “Don’t worry about it.”

“Bastard.”

He feigned a gasp. “In church?”

My face burst into flames. “Don’t bring it up!”

“Bring the Rev over here,” Grimm laughed. “And stop making her blush. I mean I don’t mind if she gets a little red, but still…” He trailed off.

“She does look good in red,” Christian mused.

Christian put me down on the bench beside Grimm who had a cigarette dangling from his lips and a smirk on his face, his eyes roamed over my naked body. I ignored his observation and went about checking his wound.

“Everything looks nice,” I said as I pulled back. “You should be fine.”

Grimm looked me over. “What does that mean? Are you already trying to get rid of me?”

I didn’t know what to say to him. On the one hand, I knew I needed him to leave. All of them. This was the place I was supposed to protect and serve my congregation.

My head’s a mess.

Knocking drew my attention to the church doors. Someone had dragged a heavy bookcase in front of them, but it rattled as the knocking became more urgent.

“Kalliope?” a familiar voice called. “Are you in there?”

My blood went cold. “Oh, no.” I hopped up and started snatching up my clothes from the night before. “Ow, ow,” I muttered bouncing on one foot as I tried to get dressed without eating the ground. I toed Hyde. “Wake up,” I hissed.

“What’s going on?” Grimm asked, grunting as he stood up. “Who the hell is that?”

“Kurt,” I muttered. “He helps around the church.”

“So what is he doing here looking for you?” Christian cut in, his eyes narrowed.

Hyde joined his friends. “And why is he calling you Kalliope? Feels too fucking friendly.”

I looked between the three of them. Every last man towered over me and I shivered. Was I more turned on or intimidated? Look what they’ve done to me. One night and I’m abandoning everything I know.

“Um, he’s a friend,” I said, clearing my throat as I forced myself to speak. “We’ve known each other since we were kids.”

“Kalliope!” he called, banging on the door again. “Are you okay?”

I took a step in that direction and was tugged back against a hard chest. Grimm held my wrist, one arm encircling my stomach as he growled at me.

“You open that door and you’ll regret it.”
