“So, I suggest you watch where you’re going.” He leaned down until his nose almost touched mine. “And who you’re messing with before something bad happens to you.”

I swallowed harshly against the pressure against my throat. “Are you threatening me?”

His smirk grew into a cold-blooded smile. “I don’t make threats, sweetheart. I only make promises, so you better watch your step.” One moment, his hands were around me and the next he was walking away from me like nothing had ever happened.

I sagged against the wall as he walked away, trying to calm my racing heart. How did I find him so damn attractive when he was a complete and utter asshole?

I watched as three other guys followed along after him before I pulled my schedule out of the pocket of my skirt to check which classroom I was supposed to be in. After that encounter, I could barely remember my own name, let alone where I was supposed to go. It didn’t seem like there was anyone to help me find my way either. At least the numbering system made sense. I could easily find my classes without anyone’s help.

The second I stepped into my first class, I wanted to turn the other way and run. My eyes collided with Archer’s and if looks could kill, I’d be dead. What was his problem with me? Of course, one of the nuns turned and spotted me immediately. She had a gentle smile on her face as she approached me. Maybe she could feel my apprehension. I didn’t know, but one look at her, and I was put at ease. At least until I turned back around and looked at the class.

“Class,” she called out. “It looks like we have a new student.” She held out her wrinkly old hand, and for a moment, I wondered what she wanted until I remembered I had my schedule in my hand. I had to have each teacher sign off on it like I was going to skip all of my classes. Well, after my meet and greet with a certain blue-eyed devil, I was seriously thinking about it.

“Welcome to English, my dear. I’m Sister Elizabeth.” She looked down at the paper and then back up at me. “Class, I’d like for you to meet Payton Rose. Please give her the grace you would anyone new to this school.”

I had a feeling I would receive little to no grace from them. Especially Archer. What was his problem, anyway?

“Why don’t you have a seat in front of Mr. Cole?” she said sweetly, having no idea she sent me to my death sentence. My eyes darted his way, and caught the brief smirk that fled his face as soon as the nun turned his way.

After taking the paper back from Sister Elizabeth, I squared my shoulders as I headed his way. I only hoped this was the one and only class I had with him. If I had anymore, I might beg my parents to send me off to boarding school in another country. Hell, military school sounded better than dealing with Archer.

His eyes were like tracker beams, and I was drawn to him. I was sure I looked like a complete idiot as I made my way to the desk in front of him. With each step I took, his eyes gleamed with evil things he wanted to do to me while my skin heated up in rage. I wouldn’t let this boy ruin my last year in high school. I wanted to get out of this town and away from my parents just as Slade had done, but I couldn’t do it without the grades to get me a full scholarship. My parents would only pay for me to go to school in a twenty-mile radius, which severely limited me. Hence why I needed the full scholarship.

“Isn’t this interesting?” he murmured as I sat down in my seat. I didn’t spare him a single glance. Instead, I pretended he didn’t exist. At least that’s what I tried to do until I felt his heat from behind me and he whispered in my ear. “Don’t be scared, little mouse. I promise I won’t hurt you. Too bad.”

CHAPTER THREE

ARCHER

I could practically feel her body trembling as I sat back in my seat and smiled. Oh, this was going to be fun. It had been a long while since I’d had a project that I was excited about, and sweet little Payton was the one assignment I was going to enjoy doing. If I closed my eyes and concentrated, I could feel her hot little body flush against mine. The way her perky breasts pressed into my firm chest.

As the day progressed, I couldn’t stop hiding my amusement as Payton walked into yet another one of my classes. Out of five, she was in three of them. Our first, middle, and last. There was no getting away from me. Not now. Not ever.

She flounced down the aisle and sat beside me. It was the only open seat in our math class. Payton huffed as she glared at me. “I swear if I didn’t know any better, you changed my schedule to be in all these classes with you,” she gritted out.

“And why would I do that?” I laughed under my breath. If I would have met her before today that would have been an excellent possibility. Instead, we were just extremely lucky. Or at least in my case.

“I don’t know. Why is it no one sits by you in your classes?” She asked out of the side of her mouth.

“It’s always best to give me a wide berth for your own safety,” I smirked as her eyes widened at my words.

“Are you some sort of sociopath or something?” She whispered.

“Something,” I muttered for only her to hear as our teacher headed our way.

“It seems Mr. Cole has taken our new student under his wing. It’s about time someone broke that tough exterior of a shell you have.” Sister Penelope smiled, but all I could see was red.

No one made a fool out of me, and that was precisely what Payton had done. I waited until Sister Penelope was far enough away that she couldn’t hear me before I spoke. My jaw ticked with each word. “You’re done here. You’re going to wish you’d never set foot on Saint Sebastian’s soil when I’m done with you.” Her jade eyes flared, making my dick twitch in my pants. First, I would have my fun with her and then I’d end her. Or better yet, I’d do both at the same time.

Strolling out of the locker room with Linc, Kai, and Leo trailing behind me, we made our way out to the pool. This right here was what made the day of monotonous garbage spewing from the nuns’ mouths worth it. I couldn’t wait to slice through the water and drowned out the world.

That was, until I saw Payton on the other side of the natatorium. What the fuck was she doing here? It was different when she was in my classes, but this was the one place I could be myself, and Payton was about to ruin everything.

“Shit, is that the new girl?” Linc said with more than a little hint of interest in his tone.

“Fuck, she’s hot. I can’t wait to get her underneath me,” Kai laughed with a high five to Linc and then Leo.

“You’ll both keep your grubby hands off her. She’s mine, and I intend to ruin her.”
