The moment I’m outside, I run.

I’m in slippers and in a nightgown but I don’t care.

If I go through the woods and to where I usually meet Mac, maybe I can find a way out. I could dig a hole in the ground, I could try to climb, wrap my gown around my hands, and use it to push away the barbed wire. But then I’ll be naked…running in the countryside like a crazy woman.

A crazy, free woman.

I lose a slipper the moment I start to sprint, but I don’t care.

I’m almost at the edge of the woods. I’m so close.

A weight crashes onto my side and I shriek as I collapse to the ground. I roll around until I’m on my back and he’s on me the next second. My back is on fire from yesterday’s caning and tears spring to my eyes.

“Miss Stewart.” Hayes’ low growl is terrifying. He’s a hunter who just caught his prey and the dark look in his eyes promises danger.

I fight him, clawing at his chest as he straddles me. He grabs my wrists, gathers them in one hand, and presses them against the ground, right above my head.

“Bad girl,” His other hand comes to grab me by the jaw and force my head still. “Bad, bad girl.”

“Let me go!” I pant, out of breath from trying to move him off me to no avail.

“Haley,” he sneers. The use of my first name stalls my heart. It sounds so sexy on his lips. Like a call for hedonism. “What did I say earlier? I chase you…”

My eyes widen knowing exactly what comes next.

“I catch you.” His hold on my jaw tightens.

“Don’t…” I plead.

“And I spank you.” His tone drops so low, I feel it all the way to my lower stomach, wrapping like an elastic band that could snap anytime.

“Mr. Hayes,” I breathe out. “This is…”

“Wrong? Depraved?”

“Against the rules.” I gulp, aware of the hypocrisy that comes with my statement.

He throws his head back as a tantalizing laugh slips out of his throat. He moves off me, still holding my wrists and pulling me up with him as he stands up. He lets go of me and, before I can react, he bends over, pushes his shoulder against my stomach, and straightens up. I fall over his shoulder, and he wraps his arm around the back of my thighs.

“Fuck the rules,” he says as he starts walking away.

I’m stunned into quietness. In no time, he’s in front of a small house attached to the school but clearly not part of it. I hear the jingling of keys and he walks us in. I do my best to look away from his perfectly shaped ass and instead into the room we’re now in.

“Is this…is this your place?”

“Temporarily. While I teach here.” His cold tone brings goosebumps to my skin. He doesn’t stop until he’s reached another room where he drops me back on my feet. I stumble back a few steps, looking around.

It’s his bedroom.

I’m in my teacher’s bedroom.

Fear and excitement grip me. If Moore thought I was rebellious before, this really takes the win.

Mr. Hayes is a dangerous man. I’ve come to understand he doesn’t care about doing the right thing. He only does whatever works for him.

“I’m going to say this once, and you will listen.” His stern tone pulls me away from my racing thoughts.

He takes a step towards me, and I take one back, hitting the dresser behind me.
