Kira started describing them like she heard my thoughts. “They are these little blue flowers. They look so pretty. I had one for a few years, and I loved it so much. It was a gift from my mom.”

“You had it back in Russia?” This was a sensitive subject, but Kira seemed relaxed, so I didn’t worry too much over my question.

She shook her head. “She gifted me when I was leaving. When Aleksei took me, she put a small pot of forget-me-nots in my hand. It was the only thing I had of her when I left. It was because…” she giggled. “Well, she gave it to me to not forget her.”

“And you didn’t.”

“I didn’t,” she said, shaking her head again.

“So, what happened to the plant? You said you had it for a few years. Did it die?” I couldn’t believe that Kira would let such a precious thing die.

She froze for a few seconds, her body tense. And just when I was about to ask if she was okay, she lowered herself to the water keeping her wrists on the surface. All the shampoo in her hair filled the water with bubbles.

When she raised to the surface again, I pulled her to me because I could tell there was a sad story there. She snuggled close to me without hesitation. Her eyes were slightly red, probably both because of the memory and the water.

“I had it at the mansion for years. I took care of it so well.” Sniff. “When Aleksei was moving me into the penthouse, he broke it. It was not intentional, but he didn’t even apologize. He didn’t even say anything. It was so unimportant to him.”

Fucking bastard.

I pressed Kira to my chest, kissing her head. “I am sorry, darling.”

She sniffed again and buried her face into my neck. She clung to me like I was her lifeline, and I was trying my best to be that for her. “I cried for three days. I wanted to buy another pot even though it was not going to be like the original. He didn’t buy me one because he didn’t like flowers in the house.”

Once again, I kissed her hair and moved to her forehead afterward. Then the side of her eye. Then her cheek. “I’ll buy you one, Kira. I know it won’t mean as much, but I will.”

She pulled back slightly and looked into my eyes with so many feelings embedded in hers. Feeling that could bring me to my knees. “I know you will,” she whispered. “And it will mean more than you think, Gabriele.”

Chapter 14

Kira

I woke up all alone in the morning. Gabriele was not spooning me; the side he slept on was already cold. And despite my experiences, I didn’t fill up with worry. If he left for good, he would have left at least a note for me.

He was probably downstairs.

Happily, I stretched out on the bed and went to the bathroom. I did my business and washed my face but couldn’t brush my teeth since my toothbrush was in the other room. I didn’t know if I should bring it here. It might have seemed like a big thing, but I didn’t think Gabriele was going to send me back to the other room again. I was going to sleep with him here, every night.

I loved that idea. It was the definition of heaven.

After washing my face, I decided to went out to the other room to take the toothbrush he put there for me here. But when I stepped out of the room with a smile, I saw something that made me go frozen.

Priscilla was in the hallway. She was out of her own room. Her braid was messed up, and she was wearing a tank top and a wrinkled pajama bottom. She was probably on her way downstairs. How the fuck did I forget she was here?

Oh, God. I forgot about her last night too. When I remembered all my moans and screams, my cheeks turned red, and I couldn’t do anything but stand there frozen. I didn’t tell Priscilla anything about Gabriele and me. She wasn’t supposed to see me leaving his room.

While I was busy getting red on the spot, she leaned against the wall and smiled at me. After a second, her expression changed drastically. Her eyes widened, and she covered her mouth. “Oh my God, I cannot believe it! You and Gabriele? I could never have guessed!”

My face wrinkled to her loud tone. “What?”

She giggled then, turning back to the relaxed, cute Priscilla. “I was trying to act surprised. Did it work?”

I still couldn’t say anything. “What?”

Priscilla came over to me and hugged me. “It is okay, Kira. You don’t have to freeze. I read too many romance books, and this is a perfect setting for you guys to fall in love.”

Did she really have to use that word? And so casually too. I pulled back and shook my head. “It is really not something like that.”

“Kira, don’t try to fool me. It is okay, really. I won’t tell anyone. Also, I really like you. I would love a sister like you.”
