Me and my little Adrian.

When we reached the end of the stairs, my pain was great, but I still realized my mom and Luda were there also, looking at me worried. Gabriele ordered something for them and then his soldiers when we reached the garage. I couldn’t even grasp what was happening because I was in so much pain. I just tucked myself into Gabriele’s heat, taking power from him. He kept saying sweet encouraging words to me.

My water broke when we were still in the car. Gabriele murmured, “Fuck.” I apologized for messing up the car. He pressed his lips to mine in response, “I’ll buy a new one.”

After we went to the hospital, it was even a bigger blur. I was pushing my baby so hard, and Gabriele was clasping my hand, kissing my sweaty forehead. My mother was there too, also soothing me.

I was grateful for both of them. I was grateful for my family.

And then, after some time – I couldn’t understand how long – I heard a cry. I heard a cry and started crying myself. The doctor held the tiny wrinkly baby that was covered in blood and goo.

It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

After all the pain and suffering, I had my baby boy with my husband holding my hand. Three days earlier than his due date. On November 4th.

“Go hold him. Go.” I let go of Gabriele’s hand. He stood there for a second, couldn’t decide if he wanted to hold our son or me. In the end, he stepped closer to the doctor and took our son in his arms. He was not too much bigger than his hand.

When I saw them together, all my uncomfortable nights and pain faded away. I fell in love with our son, and I fell in love with Gabriele all over again.

After I was stitched up and we were left with our baby Gabriele kissed my forehead as our baby was playing with his finger. He was holding me, and I was holding our son. He had white-blonde hair that I knew was going to turn golden like his daddy. He was going to be the most handsome human being in the entire world.

“Thank you, Kira,” Gabriele murmured, nuzzling my hair. “You gave me the greatest gift in the world.”

I turned my head and kissed him before turning to watch our son. This was the happiest moment of my life. As I settled back into my husband, I held my son close to my chest. I knew his words were nonsense.

He was the one that gave me the greatest gift in the world.

He gave me safety.

Pleasure.

Love.

Freedom.

He gave me a family.

POMEGRANATE SEEDS

Chapter 1

Antonio

“You are getting married?” Salvatore asked. His green eyes were wide with shock. My brother next to him had the same expression. It was a common reaction to surprising situations. It always fascinated me to see how even different types of people were able to hold very similar facial expressions in certain situations.

I cleared my throat. “I didn’t say that.” I really didn’t say that. They were just too excited to jump to conclusions and twist my words. “I only said that I am considering marriage in order to perpetuate my lineage. I don’t have a date or even a bride yet.”
