I nodded. I understood. This affected him too much. Maybe having me with him made it even more intense for him. He needed time alone. He was afraid of showing glimpses of his pain to his siblings because they had never seen it before. They never tried to see it.

I kissed his lips one last time and hopped off the car. After I got my bag from the back, I waved my hand next to the open window. “Have a nice day, Pumpkin.”

His lips curled slightly, and he started the car. “See you tomorrow, Love.”

And then he left.

What the fuck?

“Antonio!” I shouted at the moving car, but no, he was already gone. He was so unfair. Since we got married, he never even called me Prisy. He hated nicknames. Just when I least expected, he called me Love.

He took me to the deepest part of his soul and then called me Love. The man who told me he could never love me called me Love. And then he left me here, standing in confusion.

I was so damn angry at him.

But despite the anger, when I walked to the mansion, there was a huge stupid grin on my face. I loved that he called me Love. I wanted him to do it until we were both pretty vases of ashes in our children’s living room.

Since he had already left, I decided to move inside. Maria told me they were in the kitchen, so I went there and found Mia and Bella talking.

“Hi.”

They both greeted me with smiles.

“Why are you in the kitchen?”

Bella’s eyes grew huge. “Mia is going to make tanghulu.”

“I am going to try,” she corrected.

I clapped my hands. “Damn, I have never tried that but always wanted to. Do we have strawberries?” Tanghulu was basically sugar-covered fruit, and I knew it would be best with strawberries.

Mia nodded. “Of course, we do. I know what you like. By the way, what was your sudden change of plans?”

I was supposed to come an hour earlier but told them something had come up. I didn’t give them the details. I was not going to give it now either. It was something special to Antonio. Something he only shared with me.

“I was with Antonio.”

Mia looked at me from the fruit packages. “Did he drop you off?”

“Well, yeah, but he couldn’t come. He said he was a little busy. He apologized.”

I hoped for Mia to not be too upset over it, but she didn’t even get a little upset. She waved her hand with a small smile. “Classic Antonio. Work is always too important for him. I am actually surprised that he spent time with you instead of work. What did you guys even do?”

I felt some anger bubbling up in me. They were so blind. So blind to see that it was so easy for Antonio to ignore work for me. Didn’t they know he stayed at home for me for weeks after my miscarriage? Didn’t they know how much he cared for me? Did they think it was all a lie?

It was not.

“He took me somewhere important for him.” I didn’t want to share the details, but I wanted them to see our bond. I wanted to show them we shared something real.

They both seemed surprised at my words, but Mia was the one who responded. “Antonio has a special place?” She seemed like even the thought amused her.

I buried my nails in my palms to stay calm. I didn’t want to have a fight with them. They were family. “He has,” I answered with a harsher tone than I wanted. “He is not all about what he shows on the surface. He is so much more.”

“He is good at controlling his surface,” Mia said easily, like my tone didn’t bother her at all. “He has always been so good at pleasing people. Always knows how to act.”

“And you let him act?” I asked. Too quick. Too loud.

To that, Mia actually left the fruits and turned towards me. “Let him?”
