“Stupid enough,” I corrected with a hard tone. “Because whoever this is, is the same person that gave the order for Priscilla’s attack. I will make them live hell in this world. Nothing is smart about that.”

I could tell Salvatore got tense from my words. I didn’t care. We didn’t talk unless it was about work. I never explained to him what his words caused. I didn’t tell him that he was wrong.

First, I needed to figure out things myself.

Valerio tapped his index finger to his lips. “You know, I think that might not be it. I actually think New York might be after these attacks. I don’t think they will attack Priscilla.”

I tried to contain my anger inside. I knew any type of bad comment was going to lead to bad comments about my wife. I didn’t want more fights with my family.

I calmly answered. “We are in a truce.”

“Truces can be broken,” Salvatore said, and I tried to ignore him.

Valerio spoke again, “Well, they are strong enough to attack. It is a little risky since Priscilla is here, and we can hurt them through her, but…”

“Valerio!” I cut him off. I knew it was not New York, but even if it was, no one was going to hurt Priscilla to hurt Gabriele Falzone. No one was going to hurt my wife.

He shrugged like it was no big deal. He was not too hot-headed like Salvatore, but his free nature was sometimes too annoying. “They knew about the deliveries because of the truce. The marriage might just be a game. Gabriele Falzone was not very fond of it anyway.”

Alessio cut in before I could, “No one knew about the last delivery. It cannot be them.”

I gave my brother a grateful look. At least one person was at my side. Or he was just trying to prevent me from having a fight with another Vasile. Still, it felt good.

Valerio didn’t even look tense. He looked like he was almost teasing me with this, but it angered me the same.

“They didn’t know,” he accepted. “Unless they have a rat.”

My hands fisted on the armrest of my chair. “You should pick your next words really carefully, Valerio.”

“They are her family.”

“Iam her family!”

I knew Salvatore and Alessio were tense, but Valerio seemed very relaxed. He leaned towards me, challenge in his eyes. His voice held that same teasing tone. “You sure she will choose you over them?”

This damn kid.

At that moment, I realized why he always hung out with me instead of Salvatore or Alessio. He was not easy to handle. When you were not an ice bucket, Valerio Vasile was really a handful.

And at this moment, I was definitely not ice. I was burning up from inside.

My jaw flexed, and I gave him a defense instead of an answer, “She can’t be a rat. I don’t tell her about work. She doesn’t need to hear that shit.”

It was at least an honest defense. I never talked to Priscilla about work. I didn’t want to dull her sunshine with that dark shit even though I knew she could handle it.

“The standard protocol would be to interrogate her. She doesn’t seem too strong I think we can make her talk.”

I was ready to fling from my chair to attack Valerio. My self-control was so weak that I was ready to attack akid. Thankfully before I could, Alessio wrapped his hand around my arm, and Salvatore barked, “Valerio!”

“No one touches even a hair on my wife’s head,” I said, looking at Salvatore. I let him see all my fire. There was no debate over this.

Salvatore looked at me like he didn’t like what he saw at all but still yearned for it. “Of course not,” he assured me.

I nodded, absently calming a bit. I tried to gather my normal self back. I needed the calmness back.

It was hard, though. It was hard to be the Heartless when I thought about Priscilla getting tortured for information.

“But I think you should still talk to her,” Salvatore added. He seemed like he was trying to push down something intense as well.
