I aimed my gun for his head. “Stop!”

I thought my voice would make him run faster, but it didn’t. Instead, he turned towards me, and Priscilla came into view. Also, the face of the man.

Michele Falzone.

What the fuck?

My brain worked hard to make sense of the scene, but I was also slightly off by the sight of my wife. Michele was holding her body to his by her collar. Her hands were bound on her back. Her golden hair was disheveled, and her eyes were blood red. My heart would tighten at the sight of her wet cheeks, but it didn’t. Instead, it beat faster with worry because Michele’s other hand was holding a gun to her head.

My Priscilla.

My love.

I had to save her. Whatever it cost, I could not let her get hurt.

I took a tentative stop towards them, but Michele nudged her temple with the barrel of the gun. “Don’t fucking move!” he shouted. I stopped, and a satisfied smile filled his face. He got that he could control me by using Priscilla. It was not a good strategy to show him my weaknesses, but I could not risk this one.

“Throw the gun away,” he commanded. “Or I’ll blow her brain off.”

Priscilla cried harder, and I felt like suffocating. I threw my gun away. I would do anything to save her.

Fucking anything.

“Now, get on your knees with your hands behind your head,” Michele said.

I obeyed. I lowered myself to my knees. My hand settled on the back of my head. My eyes never left Priscilla’s. She cried, and she looked so fucking scared, but there was also something else.

Hope.

She had hope because I was here. She knew I was going to save her. This time she was not alone in the woods with an attacker. This time I was here. It changed everything. I would never let this end badly.

“She is your sister, Michele,” I said with an emotionless voice. “Don’t kill her.” I knew it was not going to stop him since it didn’t stop him from putting a gun to her head in the first place. I just needed some time. I needed to think.

“She is not my sister,” he spat, and the hand holding the gun shook. “She is just the result of my father’s greed. She is a disgrace to my dead mother.”

I didn’t try to make sense of his words. I had more important things to think about. Maybe I could just make him talk until the help was here.

“Don’t kill her,” I said again. I needed to find something better, or he was going to kill her.

Yet he still didn’t kill her.

Michele laughed at me like I was stupid. “Tell me one good reason to not kill her.”

I had too many reasons, but I knew none of it was going to work on him. I didn’t know how to make him stop.

He stopped a long time ago.

Thoughts filled my head, but I couldn’t find a good answer.

He ran away with her instead of killing her.

“She is pregnant,” I said. I had to give him an answer. I had to keep him busy until I solved this.

Michele started laughing like crazy. “Of course,” he murmured between laughs.

Why didn’t he kill her the second they were here?

He squeezed Priscilla closer to himself. “And I was here surprised that you got on your knees for her life. For a second, I really thought you were scared for her life.” Another burst of laughter left him. “I could just put the gun to her womb. It won’t make a difference for you.”
