Michele didn’t answer, but as he zipped me up, I could hear his angry mumbling. Honestly, I didn’t care about his words at all. I was wearing a tight nude dress, and it looked amazing on me. Misogynists could eat my ass.

“I don’t understand. Why are we going to a children’s birthday party?” I asked Gabriele. All three of us were sharing the grand suite. I mean, it was as big as a house, but I would still prefer to have my own. Gabriele said this was the best for security, but I knew what he meant was it was the best for me to not sneak out.

But there was no way I was gonna let this stop me from partying in Chicago.

“It is not a children’s party,” Gabriele explained. He was in his navy-blue suit looking all handsome and powerful. “The boy is already inducted, and he is Salvatore’s heir.”

“And fuck the girl, right?” I said with a fake smile. Both of my brothers rolled their eyes at me.

“I prefer the Russian to you,” Michele murmured behind me. Gabriele was already leaving, so I knew he didn’t hear it, but I did.

I turned back and slapped the side of his head. “She has a name,” I snarled. If Gabriele heard our brother talking that way about his wife, he would do much worse. I was very soft and cute in my reaction.

Michele looked like he was ready for a comeback, but I didn’t give him a chance. I turned my back and followed Gabriele. I was ready to leave. I looked amazing. “I mean, it can’t be more boring than New York events. At least there will be new people. I love new people.”

I heard Michele following me. “Don’t love them too much.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t fuck anyone in the bathroom,” I said with a smile. Actually, I have never fucked anyone in a bathroom or anywhere else, but that was what Michele believed about me. He believed I sneaked out of the house so I could fuck strangers. He also believed I slept with the guards in order to sneak out.

I didn’t feel the need to correct him. He was not going to believe me anyway, and I didn’t care what he thought about me. I also didn’t find being a sexually active woman something to be ashamed of. It was not me, but it was okay. Thanks to Gabriele, those rumors were not a threat to my life, so I didn’t care about being called a whore or a slut.

I just wanted to live my life and be happy.

And more than anything, I wanted to fall in love, but that was a whole other story.

In the mansion, we were welcomed by Salvatore Vasile and his itty-bitty wife. Mia Vasile was a beautiful petite woman with the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen. Salvatore Vasile was towering over her, and he was keeping her close. He had that possessive look in his eyes that I saw in Gabriele often. I heard their marriage was arranged, but it seemed like they were one of the lucky ones who could find love in an arranged marriage.

After all of us shook hands, Salvatore looked at my brother with a calculated look. “Your wife is not here, I see.”

I prayed for that question to not cause any problem. Gabriele was very protective over Kira, and if they said anything remotely offensive to her, this truce would end before it even began.

Gabriele shook his head easily. He was hiding his tense side very well. “My son is very young, and she didn’t want to leave him alone.”

Before Salvatore could talk, his wife did, “Oh, it must have been so hard for you to leave him. Newborns are addicting.” Her voice and smile were coated with honey. She was raised to be the wife of the Capo. It was only natural for her to be good at changing the environment.

I could see that we were the heart of the party. There were so many eyes on us, but only a few did come close to talk. Gabriele and Michele were keeping their body language friendly, but their brown eyes were filled with fire. We were here for peace, but we were still the Falzones.

The first couple that approached us were Isabella and Alessio Mazzoni. Isabella was Capo’s sister, and Alessio was the son of Chicago’s underboss. I learned about their family ties when our visit was confirmed.

Their daughter was walking close to her mother’s legs. She was so cute that after the official meeting, I couldn’t focus on what my brothers were talking about.

“Hello,” I said to the little girl. I couldn’t stop myself when I saw a cute toddler. She had her mother’s brown hair and her father’s grey eyes. She was wearing a cute pink dress and a work of art gold hairpins. “What is your name?”

She held onto the skirt of her mother’s dress. “Clara,” she said with her sweet baby voice and then hid her face from me.

My smile got brighter, and Isabella smiled back. “She is a little shy,” she explained, and I nodded.

I made little faces to her and made her giggle, but she was still shy. Her mother tried to encourage her to talk to me, but she was also very young to have a long conversation. In the end, she ran to her father with her short sausage legs. With that, my attention turned back to the men.

“I suppose Antonio is not here,” Gabriele asked. Oh, so he was also tense about that. Antonio was the person he was worried about, and he needed to see him so he could check him out before the negotiations began.

Clara pulled the fabric of her father’s pants, and Alessio looked down at his daughter. He picked up the little girl easily and answered my brother, “He is a little late. The business, you know. He will come with Valerio soon.”

“Business in his birthday?” Michele asked with a smirk.

Clara tried to get her father’s attention, but Alessio only kissed her hand and kept talking to my brothers. “Valerio is very eager when it comes to some aspects of the business. He wanted to go.”

“Good trait to have in an heir,” Gabriele said with a serious tone. He was always serious. Michele was always ready to explode. I guess I had to be the Mia Vasile of this group. I was supposed to make things more relaxed, and God help me; I was not good at that.
