Just when I focused on my meal, Priscilla sneezed again. Okay, it was enough for me.

I turned towards her and put my hand on her head to check for a fever. “Are you okay?”

Her eyes went wide. “I am. Why?”

“You sneezed,” I explained. Her face seemed confused, so I added, “Twice.”

She smiled, “It is just allergies.”

I looked around to see what might have caused it. I couldn’t find anything specific. Thankfully I saw almost everybody was occupied with their own talk so I could focus on Priscilla without being afraid to get mocked. I turned back to her. “We are in summer. It can’t be pollen. What is it?”

She shrugged. “Summer allergies. Grass or stuff, I guess.”

I wanted to rip off all the grass in the garden from the ground. “You don’t sneeze when we go out for runs in the morning.”

She shrugged again like it was a very casual, unimportant thing. It was important to me, though. I was worried over her. “It usually starts this time of the year.”

I was skeptical. I was not sure if it was really allergies, and even if it was, I didn’t want to see her anything but healthy and happy. It was unacceptable.

She sneezed again.

I flinched. I didn’t even remember the last time I flinched.

“Let’s carry everything inside,” I announced to the table.

Priscilla’s eyes turned huge, and she shook her head. “No, no, don’t listen to him.”

“Why the fuck we are carrying it inside? The weather is amazing,” Salvatore answered.

“Priscilla has allergies. She can’t sit here,” I explained simply because it was really simple.

I could see the anger in Salvatore’s eyes. Okay, he was bothered that I was favoring her a lot, but she was my wife. It was my duty to favor her. It was nothing more than that. For that exact reason, I also didn’t enjoy the slightly shocked faces of everybody else.

Priscilla hit my arm with her small fists. “Antonio, it is okay. We can’t bother everyone for me.”

My brows furrowed. “We can’t?” I could so very easily make them obey.

She shook her head and whispered, making our conversation discreet again. “Of course, we can’t. You are making me really embarrassed. Please let it go. It is just allergies.”

I didn’t care about bothering everyone for a good reason, but I cared about embarrassing her. I didn’t want that. So, I nodded, but it was not all of it. “Then at least let me take you to a doctor tomorrow. I want to be sure you are okay.”

“There is no need.”

“It is either that, or we are taking this inside.”

At that, she nodded quickly. “Okay, okay, you can take me to a doctor. Please just enjoy your meal.”

I accepted and turned back to my meal. Then she sneezed again. I flinchedagain. It was damn annoying. I never flinched.

I saw Mia looking at Priscilla and me with fascination in her eyes, but she didn’t say anything. I wished I could read her mind because I felt like everybody else was thinking the same thing as her. Only they were better at hiding it.

No doubt what they thought was wrong and ridiculous, but I still wanted to know for some reason. I wanted to know how my acts towards Priscilla looked from the outside because I was having the hardest time understanding what was happening inside my head when she was concerned. She was chaos. I wanted it gone, but I knew I never could get rid of it because there was no way I was going to give up on Priscilla.

Chapter 23

Priscilla

I scrubbed Apollo’s ears. I had never seen a dog that loved baths that much. It was amazing. I enjoyed bathing him. Antonio usually scowled at me because I made a mess in the bathroom and called the cleaner the next day. He loved everything so organized. I was trying my best to adapt to his style, but it was not easy for me. I liked leaving everything everywhere and tidying up only when it was necessary. His influence on me was not a bad one, but it didn’t change the fact that it was hard.
