There were women with blonde hair in the Outfit, even though most were dyed. This one was natural, though. I could tell. It also belonged to a woman I had never seen before.

She was…

She was…

I couldn’t find the right word to describe it. She was wearing a tight nude dress, and it was hugging her body in the most delicious way. She had many curves. Nothing like the woman I usually dated with. She was better.

She reminded me of something. Those long golden locks and that body and that beautiful pale face. She reminded me of something so beautiful. It was almost impossible for me to find things beautiful, but I could see aesthetics. I could admire art.

She was like art.

She was like a goddess.

She looked like Boticelli’s Venus. In the middle of the crowd looking lost, shining like the fucking sun, I wondered how nobody’s eyes were burning.

My very own Venus.

It was the weirdest sensation, but my logical side did make sense of the situation somehow. She was pleasant-looking, and she didn’t belong here. She was young but not too young, and she was alone. Exactly what I was looking for.

Without even realizing I touched the left side of my ribs, right under my heart. I felt the tattoo under my clothing and remembered Rosetta. I normally never remembered her other than my grave visits, but this time I did. She came back, and with her, the ghost of my emotions did too. I felt my chest pulling me to my knees but somehow stayed upright.

I whispered so quietly that only I and my dead mother could hear, “I found her, Rosetta.”

I found my bride

Chapter 4

Antonio

The second I saw her, all the thoughts about Lilliana Gravano left my brain. The only thing I could do was to walk towards her. And yes, there was a valid reason for me to walk towards her, but it still felt like my feet had a mind of their own. So strange.

She was busy getting a canapé from the tray a server was carrying. She gave him a bright smile as she took it, and I wanted that smile for myself. So, fucking strange.

When I got close to her, I cleared my throat. I didn’t even know her name. “Good evening.”

She turned back to my voice, and when her green eyes came to mine, they widened. She swallowed her canapé, and her lips parted. I was used to getting admiring glances from women, but the way she looked at me was so much different. They usually gave me slurry looks as an invitation or got shy under my gaze. They would either play or try to hide their feelings towards the sight of me.

Not this one, though. She gave me a bright, genuine look. Such open, obvious admiration. She was so full of emotions, and she didn’t hide even an ounce of it.

I got jealous? No, I got irritated. It irritated me that she had so many emotions so easily when I couldn’t have any. Still, I was not going back.

“Hello,” she answered. Her voice was as pleasant as the rest of her. I didn’t know if it was the singing type, but it was definitely the kind of voice people would listen for hours.

Why the fuck did I want to listen it for hours? Strange again.

“Are you enjoying the party?” I asked.

She nodded, still smiling. “Yes. I was looking for a dance partner.” She lifted a thick gold eyebrow.

Bold.

For some reason, I thought she was going to be the shy type, but this was better.

I held out my hand. “I’ll be honored to be that partner.” I needed to get to know her, not Lilliana. I needed to know if she was indeed fitting to be my bride because deep down, the tiny part of me that was not wrapped up in logic knew she was.

She giggled so openly again and placed her hand in mine. I pulled her to the dance floor. My other hand went to her waist, my pinky touching the upper side of her butt. She felt so good in my arms. Despite her heels, she was still much shorter than me. Her gold earrings and necklace were shining along with her similar colored hair. She felt so soft everywhere I touched her, like clouds.

Holding a goddess in my arms. Fucking Venus.
