I hoped it was. I didn’t have to marry her. I could say no, but I knew this was a good union for my family. I just hoped she could be someone I could form a partnership with. Hoping for love was stupid, but I had the right to at least hope for a happy home life. I at least wanted someone I could get along with.

Antonio turned to Priscilla. “You were nineteen and not promised when I met you.”

“Yes, and I was not proper or virginal.”

To that, Antonio got a weird look like he was trying to solve a complicated math problem.

Priscilla’s cheeks heated, and she whisper-yelled, “Virgin and virginal are not the same thing.”

“Really?”

“Yes! Ask Valerio.”

When Antonio turned to me, I got my signature mocking smile back. “They are not. You can be a virgin and still be a whore. It is a personality trait Prisy, and I share.”

His jaw ticked. “I really don’t like you calling my wife a whore.”

Priscilla waved him off. “He can say it. I know what he means.”

I blew a kiss at her, and she smiled. Antonio was not very happy, though. He just shook his head and looked out of the window. Concern flashed in Priscilla’s eyes just before she leaned and kissed his cheek. Antonio’s lips tipped up in a rare smile. He eyed her and put a hand on her bare thigh.

Their affection created a tightness in my chest, but I ignored it. That was not something someone like me should dream of.

“I think you are going to like her,” Priscilla said, helping me get away from my feelings. “Which made you fucking someone else last night very rude.”

My eyebrows lifted. “How do you know I fucked someone?”

“I know you.” She rolled her eyes.

Yes, she did. However, she didn’t know how good it was. I spent maybe two hours with Ana dancing and fucking, and she almost bewitched me. It was totally illogical, and I shouldn’t even consider it, but I was not going to see her again. I could at least accept her effect on me internally.

I was never going to tell it to anyone.

“I am not married yet,” I answered Prisy. “I can fuck whomever I want.”

“Will you still do that if you get engaged?” she asked. I could see how ready she was to judge me depending on my answer.

Most men didn’t stay loyal to their fiancées. Cheating was frowned upon after marriage, but most still did it secretly. Mostly wives knew, but they bore it as long as the husband kept it hush-hush.

My views on the matter were different. The idea of having sex with only one person for the rest of my life didn’t bother me, but of course, I would want it to be good sex. I was okay with the idea of an open marriage if it was going to make things better, but it had to be a mutual agreement. Even if my engagement and marriage were arranged, cheating was still cheating to me.

With that thought, I actually answered Priscilla truthfully. “Only if she knows and accepts it.”

She nodded. “Well, the romantic in me hated that answer, but I guess it is fair.”

I only smiled. I knew what she hoped for me, but hope was a dangerous thing. It was best to just crash it away.

Because of that reason, I had zero expectations about Luciana Borelli, when we reached their great mansion.

Most guests were already there when we arrived. It was a nice outdoor celebration. I wondered if Gino Borelli had ever celebrated an anniversary before. Clearly, this was just an excuse to throw a party and invite us here.

Don of Los Angeles welcomed us with an overly friendly smile and open arms. When Antonio went to shake his hand, he actually kissed his cheeks and then did the same to me. “You don’t know how happy I am that you made it.”

“Of course,” Antonio said smoothly while I felt my eye twitch from the fakeness of his act. “We are happy to be here. Congratulations on your twenty years of marriage.”

Gino Borelli laughed, and his wife thanked us with a polite smile. She was a beautiful woman with dark hair and dark eyes. She was also young enough to be Gino’s daughter. She didn’t look miserable, but I could tell this was not a love match, at least not for her.

Gino pulled his wife close. “Abigail showed me the meaning of a happy marriage. It exists, but you need a few tries to get there, you know.” He laughed loudly, and I just wanted to slap his mouth.
