Of course, before all this, I had to be sure we were on the same page. I inhaled a deep breath and asked, “So you want to marry me?”

He shrugged. “You might have to take me out to dinner before I say yes, but I am not against the idea.”

I just shook my head. “You are weird.”

Valerio

Luce looked a little speechless. It was so weird seeing her like this after last night. Everything was too fucking weird.

I was not very religious, but this felt like a doing of a higher entity. Just after I wished to have chemistry with my bride as I had with Ana, I found out she was my bride. The universe really worked in strange ways.

She was also different than the girl I met yesterday night. Maybe having great sex with someone was not enough to get to know them.

I was also annoyed by how she treated me like I was a close-minded traditionalist. “I am weird because I don’t want apurewife?” I said mockingly.

Her expression was distrustful. I hated that. “Is that not important for you?”

I didn’t want to tell her lies and make her trust me even less. She was expecting a proposal from me, and she thought I was changing my mind just because we had sex last night. It was ridiculous.

I said, “I think being someone’s first is special.” Her face crumpled with distaste. “I do believe that, but I didn’t wait for marriage, so I don’t have the right to expect that from my wife.”

“Most men in our circles don’t think that way.”

“Well, most of those men are hypocrite assholes.”

For the first time, a shadow of a smile appeared on her face. “They are,” she murmured.

Her small smile made something in my chest move. She was so grumpy that I wanted to challenge myself to get smiles from her daily.

“I came here to marry you, Luciana,” I said, and she looked up at me nervously. “I will never marry someone unwilling, but if you want to marry me, what happened between us last night doesn’t change things for me. To be honest with you, I came here with very low expectations, and I got much more than I could wish for.”

She was very beautiful, but it was more than that. She was neither proper nor virginal, and I loved that. Luciana Borelli was the most fitting bride for me in Cosa Nostra.

“So,” I said, lifting my eyebrows. “Do you want to marry me?”

She nibbled her bottom lip, and despite the tenseness of the situation, my throat went dry. I couldn’t stop myself from remembering last night. I wondered what type of marriage she wanted. Would I be able to touch her again? Taste her again?

Fuck I was getting hard at the thought. I didn’t know her all that well, but I still wished her to say yes. The idea of having her as my wife appealed to me more than it should.

After what felt like hours, Luciana answered, “Can I think about it?”

Of course, she was not as stupid as me to fall at first sight. “Of course. I wouldn’t rush into things normally. We can get to know each other a bit today if you like. We can discuss things. Only if you say yes, I will ask your father for your hand.”

She nodded, but then another nervous look captured her features. “And you will not mention what happened last night.”

“Your father doesn’t know you are not a virgin?” It was a stupid question. Gino Borelli would not dare give me an impure bride. I was not a traditionalist, but he was.

She halted for a second but then answered, “No.”

I nodded. “That is okay. Whatever your decision is, I will not mention anything. If I ask for your hand, it will be because of how much you took my breath away, and if I won’t, it will be because I am an asshole not ready for marriage. I will take the burden.”

“Okay,” she looked pleased with my answer and gave me a small smile, but I could tell she was still a bit tense. I hoped I could just take it all away from her. I wanted her like she was yesterday night.

Wild.

Happy.
