It still hurt.

I got into her room. She was sleeping soundly as I lay next to her and hugged her close to my chest. I had to leave her for a while, and it hurt, but it was my best option. It was the only way to save both of us. However, there was no chance I would leave her with my father for all her life. She deserved better than him. She deserved better than what I went through, and I would do everything to ensure she got the best life. I was going to give her the world.

I closed my eyes, imagining a good life for us. I wanted to sleep and dream about a good future. I wanted to see things I was even afraid to wish. I wanted to be happy in my dreams.

But my phone buzzed in my pocket. After quickly checking if it woke Elsie up, I looked at the screen. A text from an unknown number was there, and the second one came in a heartbeat.

Unknown: Can my nieces and nephews be at the wedding party? They are very excited.

Unknown: This is Valerio, obviously.

I sighed deeply. Despite being very acceptant of my conditions, he was still a piece of work. I didn’t know how I was going to get used to living with him. He was annoying.

He was especially annoying when I was worried about my life and Elsie’s future while he was just talking about unimportant things. He obviously didn’t know the situation, but I still got annoyed. I hated how easy it was for him.

I hated the fact that he was granted everything I didn’t.

So, I saved his number, and I texted back without caring how grumpy I would look. He had no right to judge me when he was dealt a great life.

Luciana: I don’t care.

He texted back in a second, not even a bit affected by my coldness.

Valerio: Did someone upset my bride?

Valerio: I can beat them up for you??

Luciana: I just don’t care what happens at the wedding. Do whatever you fucking want.

Valerio: Really?

Valerio: Don’t you want your sister to be a flower girl? I thought you were close.

The only reason I didn’t grunt was that Elsie was sleeping right next to me.

Luciana: She is going to be a flower girl.

Valerio: So, you do care?

I gritted my teeth.

Luciana: I don’t.

Valerio: I’ll send you pictures for the centerpieces tomorrow.

I rolled my eyes even though he couldn’t see me. I didn’t reply but instead turned on the silent mode. When I hugged Elsie close and closed my eyes, a small smile lifted my lips for no reason at all.

Chapter 10

Valerio

“I still can’t believe a girl really agreed to marry you.”

I smiled at a very drunk Bianca. “And I love you too.” It had been almost three weeks since my engagement, but my best friend still liked to joke about it.

We were at one of the Outfit’s clubs, Vista. We liked to sit in the VIP area and get drunk before going down to dance. All three of us were squiffy at this point.

My twin sister smiled a bit at the joke. “I am honestly worried about what kind of a person she is.”
