“...Are we going to be okay to go?” whispered Eden to Dante, glancing toward all the armed people around.

In fact, it felt like a very dangerous place to be at the moment. Dozens of gangsters lined up, with plenty of weapons, as if they were just about to be unloaded in a war zone... Not to mention, both sides were temporary allies. Dante’s men were all in their black suits, and Thao’s men in more sporty, day-to-day, black streetwear, it was easy to tell who was on which side. The Rat’s men all had visible tattoos, piercings, and silver jewelry too, while the Italians wore the same luxurious suits like various clones of one another. Eden didn’t feel comfortable locked in a room with that many people. It was like a warehouse with a bloodbath waiting to happen...

“Thao!” she called out as soon as she spotted her, arguing with one of her men.

“We have to go, quick,” retorted the Asian lady. “Our people already spotted more cars coming this way, probably ready for war. They won’t risk blowing this place, but I bet they wouldn’t mind shooting us like rabbits once we come out.”

“So we go out now,” nodded Eden.

“The truce will last until the border of my territory,” said Thao, this time glaring at Dante. “If a single one of your men opens fire before that, I don’t care if it’s at a fly, we’ll shoot.”

Dante didn’t answer, but his golden eyes went to his men, who all nodded right away. Eden spotted Rolf and his salt-and-pepper hair a few meters away, who gave them another little nod. He was closest to the door and probably ready to lead the Italians out of there.

“Let’s scatter,” said Dante, probably to Rolf. “Let’s get the Zebra’s and Dragon’s people worked up on our way out so they lend us some fire to cover our exit.”

Rolf nodded again and turned around to give orders, some men running to try and force the doors open right after that. Eden frowned.

“You want to make the other Zodiacs fight?”

“The Core is already here,” he calmly said. “We might as well let them know they are not welcome.”

“...He’s right,” muttered Circé. “I didn’t actually believe they’d dare come and stay that long in a territory outside the Core, but now they are sending more people. They must be pissed we didn’t let them get what they wanted...”

“Let’s just get out of here,” sighed Eden, exhausted. “We have what we came for...”

She felt Dante’s hand slide on her back, but she didn’t even want to waste energy protesting about that. She was just holding the documents they had found, her head full of questions but too tired to even want to think about them. They could all be discussed later. For now, they weren’t safe here at all; they just really had to get out.

“Loir, make sure to cover our escape route. Let us know if something happens.”

“Black cars coming from the left,” he sang. “...black cars coming from the right. Everybody clap your hands, a little boogie to the side, and woo!”

“He’s exhausting, isn’t he?” scoffed Circé, noticing Eden’s expression. “Tell that crazy punk he should try and hack their cars. They are linked to the Core’s System. He should have some fun while he’s in...”

“Loir, you heard that?”

“Oh, my ponies! I get to play Mario Kart 12? Woohoo! Hold your unicorns, Super Loir is incoming!! Give me some mushrooms!”

Indeed, he was pretty exhausting.

In front of them, the doors were suddenly slammed open by the few mafiosos working on it. They all began flowing out of the room, weapons in hand and yelling all around.

“Jack!” she called out as the room was slowly getting emptier.

“Here! Oh, God, why did I wear these heels... Here, Eden!”

She ran to him, finding Jack hidden in a corner not too far from them, visibly terrified too, and still holding one shoe in each hand for some reason.

“We’re leaving,” she said quickly, bringing him some relief. “Jack, we’re going to have to run. Leave the shoes and get a gun.”

“I’m not leaving these babies! They cost a... Oh, fuck it, they’re ruined anyway.”

He threw them across the room and grabbed one of the nearby assault guns with a heavy sigh.

“That’s one hell of a long day working for free,” he grumbled.

Circé rolled her eyes as she appeared next to them, having somehow found a bag in the mess, and she and Eden stuffed the papers in it before grabbing some weapons. Dante also had a gun in each hand, but his golden eyes were darting around like a hawk. Everyone was leaving before them and, since she couldn’t hear any shooting, Eden silently prayed it went on like this and they could all leave this hellish place without any further damage...

“Let’s go,” said Dante as soon as the path ahead was cleared.
