It didn’t seem like anything was wrong at first. However, the blonde quickly realized all the customers tonight were Caucasian. They were all perfectly shaven, wearing dark suits and shiny leather shoes. A chill went down her spine. Some weren’t even with girls, simply standing in the corners of the room like watchmen. From their rigid stance and cold gazes going over the room, she could tell they were bodyguards.
Next, Eden looked for Rose. She had been right; a big fish was there… No, clearly, that was a shark. The Italian Tiger.
CHAPTER FOUR
A chill went down Eden’s spine as she laid her eyes on the man. He was seated on the largest leather sofa of the club, with Rose. It was the first time Eden saw that man in person, but she immediately knew who he was. Some of his tattoos were visible right above the collar of his silk shirt, and one could identify the paw of a large feline, claws out. Everything about him screamed powerful, rich, and dangerous. Without doing anything, he was clearly dominating the whole room. All the other men present had their bodies positioned according to his, watching his every move.
He was simply sitting, but even the way he was sitting had something imposing about it. It was like seeing a lion; although the beast was resting, he was still a predator. Eden averted her eyes for a second, grabbing another glass, but she was curious to see more of him again. His lean features reminded her of a feline. He looked younger than she had thought, with his clean-shaven chin and thin lips. Eden had to admit, this man was the definition of handsome. He had a long straight nose, perfect skin, and although he was sitting, she could tell he was probably toned and tall too. No wonder Rose was all over him. Even the girls busy with other customers were sending glances his way.
Suddenly, he raised his eyes, and without warning, he met Eden’s. His burning, golden gaze shook her whole soul. It only lasted for a second, yet it felt like an earthquake under her feet.
Eden turned back toward the bar, unable to understand what had just happened. Her heart went wild in her chest as she tried to control her breathing. He couldn’t have found her. Has she been traced? The guy from earlier said her position had been pinpointed, but even so, the Italian shouldn’t have been able to find her here! A drop of cold sweat went down Eden’s spine under her blonde curls.
No, no, it couldn’t be. She would already be dead otherwise. It just couldn’t be. With trembling fingers, she took the glasses and adjusted them on her tray, taking discreet deep breaths. She couldn’t have been found. If she had, she could always deny it. Who would think Ghost was a woman, and a Part too? No one could find out about her secret.
Jack had noticed the trouble in Eden’s eyes but knew better than to say anything. Slowly wiping the glass, he sent a glance Eden’s way, but the blonde put on a convincing smile and turned her heels.
Despite the seemingly joyful atmosphere in the bar, it felt like walking in a minefield. The Italians didn’t belong here. This bar was on the Dragon’s territory and not even close to the border. The Tiger had come here deliberately to piss off his rival. Eden didn’t like that. If he hadn’t come for Ghost, what was he here for? To stir up trouble? She started walking toward the table he was at, with Rose all over him.
“You should come more often,” the hostess was meowing. “I’d love to have you as a customer any time...”
He remained silent, his eyes on Eden as she slowly approached them.
The tension was terrible around him. Although Eden had merely taken a couple of steps close enough to reach their table, she could feel a target on her head and a dozen eyes on her back. The pressure was on every inch of her skin, like walking on a very, very thin thread, or into a cage. Death was just lurking around the corner, looking for the wrong move to come claim her life. Eden had rarely felt that much tension, even in life-or-death situations she’d been in before. It was as if she had a leash around her neck; one wrong move and she’d be punished. Still, she dared to raise her hazel eyes and look into his.
Dante De Luca was watching her too. His eyes were glowing like liquid gold and watching her every move. He really was a tiger, and she was the girl lowering her head in front of him.
Careful with each movement, Eden put down their glasses. She could even feel Rose’s stare on her, but that was the one she was least worried about. She stood back up and turned on her heels to leave.
This was almost a test for her. If the Tiger truly didn’t react to her, then–
“Hey, you!”
Eden froze and glanced over her shoulder. One of the guys who had been standing next to the sofa walked up to her. He was a tall man with a large scar over his eye and a goatee.
“Are you busy, darling? You should accompany me...”
Eden hadn’t expected that. She had almost forgotten that she works here. Sending a very quick glance to the mafia lord, she put on her business smile, acting charming as usual.
“Of course, dear guest. Shall we find a seat?” she said with her pretty voice.
The man smiled, a snicker that wouldn’t have duped anyone.
However, before they could move, June suddenly appeared next to Eden, almost pushing her.
“How about you come with me instead?” she said seductively. “She’s busy pouring drinks anyway.”
Eden tried hard not to glare at her. June didn’t care about the guest; she was clearly just messing with her because of earlier. Couldn’t she have picked another time to act like a child? Unsure, Eden glanced toward the bar, where Jack was sending them daggers. He hated when they fought in front of customers.
“Well, I’ll leave you with June then,” said Eden, stepping aside.
However, as she did, the man suddenly grabbed her arm forcefully.
“Hey, I said I wanted you, blondie. Don’t customers get to pick?”
June made a sour face but regained her composure quickly. She sighed and dramatically waved her hair in Eden’s face.
“That’s too bad. I guess some people do like Parts, after all...”
