“It’s... I’m alright.”

“We... retrieved his body,” Circé added.

“C.!” protested Jack, but she ignored him.

“We have it here, it’s with the Italians. We wanted to know what you’d want to do, we thought we should wait... for you to wake up.”

“Thank you. I just... want to hold a proper ceremony. …How long have I been unconscious?”

“Just about two days, it’s evening now.”

“How is the situation outside?”

“Well, we–”

“Girl, can’t you just rest?!” exclaimed Jack, annoyed.

“I’m alright, Jack. …Circé, please. Tell me what’s happening.”

“Everything’s fine,” she immediately replied. “As in, the fight’s over, and we’ve got nothing to fear so far. Well, needless to say, the Suburbs are still wrecked and many people couldn’t get home, but we’re setting up camps and putting people wherever there’s space, and distributing food for free too. Many people opened their restaurants to help distribute food and the Zodiac is paying for most of it. …In fact, the Zodiac is negotiating with the Core as we speak. They arrested the Governor, as they promised, but the guy died from your gunshot within the next couple of hours. Honestly, I suspect they didn’t try hard to save him...”

Eden sighed. She wondered how hard they would have charged him for his crimes... Her bullet probably spared them from digging any further into the huge pile of shit their Governor left behind.

“...You said the Zodiac is negotiating with them? Now?”

“Yeah. Well, it started over an hour ago, so...”

“I want to go.”

“What?”

“Hun, no!” protested Jack. “You literally just woke up, you should stick to this bed!”

“Jack, I’m going. I want to go.”

Jack turned to Circé with angry eyes, visibly seeking her help, but she simply shrugged.

“Well, technically, you have a right to be there. I’ll go grab you a wheelchair.”

She quickly left before Jack could get mad at her, so he turned to Eden with furious eyes instead.

“Are you insane?!” he shouted. “Girl, you should just stick to this bed and take the damn year off after all the bullshit you went through!”

“I’m really fine, Jack, the drugs are just making me tired. Also, I’ll regret it if I don’t attend those negotiations, I should be there.”

“You should stay in a damn bed! Eden, you almost freakin’ died!”

“I promise I’m fine.”

“What about your baby, then?”

She froze.

“My... what?”

“Yes, girl, your Tiger left a cub in there! You’re pregnant! …You really didn’t know?”

Eden was speechless. Pregnant? …She had no idea. No, she hadn’t even imagined this possibility... She felt strange. She really was pregnant with Dante’s child? Well, there had been plenty of opportunities for her to get pregnant, for sure. Eden simply hadn’t even thought about it ever happening. Their relationship was already so unusual in itself. How would she have even imagined they’d conceive a child together? That she would... become a mother?
