A chill went down Eden’s spine. She took another step back, unsure of what to do. It was too late to run. Dante’s men were already taking over the underground garage, appearing at the only two exits. Moreover, Dante was slowly approaching her. No matter how much Eden retreated, he just kept stepping forward with that cunning smile on his lips.

“What is it?” he asked in a deep voice. “You didn’t think I would keep my promise?”

Eden glared at him. Oh, no, she knew he was going to pursue her and try to capture her again. She was even mad at herself for thinking it could really have been that easy. She had enjoyed not even two hours of freedom, and she was already back in his clutches. Eden wasn’t so stupid as to try and fight her way out of this. She knew when a fight was over, and she had clearly lost this one.

“Buongiorno!” exclaimed Loir, absolutely not impressed by the men barging in.

He was waving at them as if he had organized a party here himself. Eden glared at him, annoyed by his attitude. Was there really nothing that could make him panic?!

“So this is your partner,” said Dante. “A crazy anarchist, hidden in a basement.”

“Leave him the fuck alone,” hissed Eden.

However, Dante ignored her with a little chuckle and walked up to Loir’s console. On the ground, Bullet was growling, but as soon as the mafia lord’s eyes looked down at him, the pup stopped and ran back to Eden’s feet. Eden grabbed him and turned to watch Dante approach Loir. She was restless about this confrontation. Loir was crazy, probably unreliable, and a ton of other things, but he was still one of her only friends. Seeing him, the man who had been living alone in his basement for years, hidden from the world, approached by the Italian Tiger was enough to make her terribly nervous again. It was clear something was wrong about this whole scene that was happening. Still, Dante approached him calmly, and Loir had that stupid smile stuck on his face, his eyes not shying away from the Italian.

“So, you’re Eden’s mysterious partner,” said Dante.

“So, you’re the Big Kitty,” retorted Loir, not impressed at all. “You’re not as cute as I had imagined...”

Dante raised an eyebrow. With his completely black eyes, it was hard to decipher this alien. Loir tilted his head, smiling as if his hideout hadn’t just been brutally invaded.

“...How long have you been working together?” asked Dante.

“A few years.”

“Loir!” protested Eden, furious that he answered Dante’s questions so calmly and promptly.

However, those two were completely ignoring her at the moment. Loir had his hands on his knees and was staring at Dante with a curious expression like one would have while observing some unknown creature. It was probably the same feeling for Dante, although the mafia lord acted very calm and composed.

“How did you get her to Dive for you?”

“I didn’t,” answered Loir with a creepy chuckle. “Her previous partner disappeared, I was there... and we like the same toys.”

“I see... So, what is your motivation?”

Loir immediately beamed.

“Well, do you pay in pizza?” he asked, tilting his head, his mouth wide open.

Eden wanted to slam her head into a wall listening to Loir at the peak of his ridiculous attitude. Dante chuckled, simply amused by the hacker’s crazy demand.

“We’ve got all the pizza you want if you’ll work for us.”

“Yay!”

“Loir, shut the fuck up!” retorted Eden, furious.

She walked up to the tattooed man, grabbing the arms of his chair and turning him to face her.

“Have you gone mad?! This is serious, Loir! Don’t start making deals with these people!”

“Give up, Eden,” said Dante, turning to her. “Your partner seems fine working with us. I already said I’d provide everything you would need, and now, we even have your Back Hacker.”

Eden ignored him. She was just furious: furious to have been tricked so stupidly, furious to have led them to Loir, and furious at that idiot who was willing to become their slave just to get free food. This didn’t make any sense! She knew Loir acted crazy half of the time, but he was smart, surprisingly smart. He couldn’t be stupid enough to agree to this without knowing what it all meant!

“Loir, stop your charade,” she said. “This isn’t funny anymore. If you refuse to work for them, they can’t force you. You’re a hacker; you’re smarter than the idiot you’re acting as. Why are you giving in to their crap?!”

Loir smiled and leaned toward her.
