He had said that while clearly looking at Dante, who smiled. The mob boss had already understood that to handle Loir, there was no choice but to give in to the craziness.

“I got new toys for you,” he answered.

“Oh...” said Loir, his eyes shining.

Eden was still very suspicious of him, but they walked inside the building and followed the man. Eden wasn’t relaxed because they were back in the Italians’ territory, but somehow, the fact that Loir was with her in this foreign environment was giving her an extra dose of courage.

Moreover, this time, she had more time to see and explore the building, following Dante and Rolf. While Loir didn’t seem to care at all, only making strange noises and gestures to get the pups’ attention, Eden kept looking around. Everything was a strange mix of modernity, yet not quite like the Core. Just like Jack’s bar, there were some obvious inspirations from the thirties, like the golden table lamps, the rich green velvet couches, the ceiling mirrors that made the room seem impossibly big, and the patterned rug over the marble floor. It was as if one of those very fancy hotels from the Loop had been stuck in time, and only some small hints of technology were hidden here and there, like the android behind their welcome desk or the cameras hanging from the etched, lacquered walnut walls. Eden couldn’t help but look down, annoyed by the cameras following them.

Quickly, Dante led the way to a hidden elevator, using a code to open the doors, and it slowly lifted them to the upper floors.

The doors opened back in the twenty-second century and Loir literally squealed. An impressive panel of new technology was laid out in front of them. The gray floor was so impeccable, there wasn’t a single speck of dust. The pups ran ahead to play in the large room while Loir began rolling his chair as fast as he could toward the giant computers laid out in a semicircle, completely over-excited.

“Didn’t I promise you?” said Dante, visibly satisfied by the hacker’s reaction. “Brand new technology, all you need and want to work for me...”

Eden glared at the last part, but she had to admit, all this must have cost a fortune. Loir was beyond himself.

“Eden, Eden! Look at the processor! That baby is so new and shiny and powerful! Oh my goodness, and this! They don’t even have one like that on the Chinese Market! Oh crap, Eden, I think I’m going to soil my diaper!”

Behind him, Rolf grimaced, and a couple of Dante’s men quickly found an excuse to leave. Eden sighed. She had to admit, this was the best technology there was. Moreover, this was obviously brand new, as there were two men, probably technicians, still installing some of it.

“Hey, hey, what’s he doing?!” exclaimed one of them.

Eden sighed. As always, Loir had decided to throw people off and was practically climbing on the desk to pull out the cables, tossing them and other pieces across the room. He began throwing them at the two technicians and screaming.

“You damn savages! You dare to pull out this kind of crappy model on my new princess? Savages! Do you want to have pig intestines instead of yours? I should hang you by your balls! Savages!”

“...A-aren’t you going to stop him?” asked Rolf, looking a bit worried at all their hardware being thrown across the room.

“Oh no,” retorted Eden, a smile on. “He’s the one in charge of the equipment, and your guys really have no idea what they are doing. Plus, Loir can’t aim for the life of—”

Just as she was about to end her sentence, Eden was proven wrong. A piece of some already-damaged hardware had just hit one of the men right in the face, who groaned loudly, his nose bleeding.

“What the fuck! You crazy piece of—”

“Out.”

Dante’s words resonated like a whiplash in the room. All his men immediately scampered like frightened rats, and soon, there were only the four of them left. Bullet and Beer played with the cables Loir had just thrown away in the corner, each pulling on one end.

“...We can get the parts you don’t like replaced,” said Rolf, stepping forward.

Loir’s head popped out from behind one of the screens, as it seemed the hacker had somehow found a way to pull his body onto the desk, going through his new equipment. He had his arms wrapped around a large piece of hardware like he was protecting something precious and gave them a suspicious look.

“Don’t let your monkeys play with my toys again,” he hissed.

“Understood.”

“And I want my equipment brought up. You guys really don’t appreciate the art and can’t just buy whatever is new! You big noobs! Doofuses!”

“We will bring it up right away,” said Rolf, nodding.

He walked out of the room, but not without giving the pups another look; Beer and Bullet were having a lot of fun in the pile of rejected hardware. Eden crossed her arms and walked over to Loir’s side. He was now under the desk, changing all the cables again and grumbling about the monkeys who had handled his new equipment. It was obvious he was having a lot of fun. He kept wriggling and would sometimes let out that creepy little laugh of his before crawling under another part of the desk.

“...What do you think?” asked Eden, a bit bitter.

“Well, this is my first time having a sugar daddy, Kitty. It is a bit overwhelming I’ll admit, but so far I like it!”

Eden rolled her eyes. As if she could have expected a serious answer... She stepped back, letting him have his fun. It was clear Loir had found his new habitat and wouldn’t move out of there. She heard Dante approach and tried not to react to it, her arms still wrapped around herself.
